The Minnesota Vikings are standing alone again.
After Sunday’s Week 7 results, Minnesota became the NFL’s last unbeaten team of 2026, moving to 6-0 and leaving the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers behind in the loss column. The Vikings handled the Indianapolis Colts, while the 49ers fell 29-20 to the Atlanta Falcons and the Chiefs were beaten by 17 points in a primetime loss to the Seattle Seahawks.
For Minnesota, it’s a familiar position. This is the seventh time the Vikings have been the league’s final undefeated team.
The last time it happened was 2016, when the Vikings carried that distinction into Week 7 before losing to the Philadelphia Eagles. That season unraveled from there. Minnesota dropped eight of its final 11 games and missed the playoffs altogether.
That 2016 group now stands as the most recent team to go from the NFL’s last unbeaten club to sitting outside the postseason picture. Since then, every team that has held that spot has at least reached the playoffs. None of them, though, finished the job with a Super Bowl win.
To find the last team that did, you have to go back to 2006, when Peyton Manning and the Colts won it all after being the league’s final undefeated team.
Looking at Minnesota’s past in this lane, the Vikings have missed the playoffs once in these seven runs, made the postseason five times, reached the conference championship three times, and played in the Super Bowl twice, in 1973 and 1976.
Now the only question is whether this year’s Vikings can avoid repeating the path of 2016 and turn this unbeaten start into a playoff run.

Vikings Just Claimed The NFL Spot Every Contender Wants
After seven weeks, the Vikings are the last undefeated team standing, which is exactly the kind of early-season position every contender wants but almost nobody gets to keep for long. In a league built to flatten the standings quickly, Minnesota has separated itself from the pack while a handful of other teams around the NFL are already dealing with the usual October churn.
At the other end of the spectrum, the Chargers remain stuck as the leagues only winless team, even with a bye week giving them time to regroup. Injuries and uneven play have kept that situation from changing, and the broader picture around the AFC only adds to the contrast, with Tennessee sliding to 1-6 and frustration beginning to show on the sideline. For Minnesota, the bigger question now is how long this kind of clean slate can last. [Read more 🡒]
Vikings Unbeaten Run Is Hiding A Justin Jefferson Concern
Minnesotas 6-0 start has been built on a defense that has looked sharp under Brian Flores, giving the Vikings enough week-to-week stability to keep rolling while the offense settles in around it. Even with the unbeaten record, there is a quiet layer to the conversation around Justin Jefferson, whose production has been solid but not quite in the usual stratosphere for one of the leagues premier receivers.
Through five games, Jefferson has 23 catches for 302 yards and three touchdowns, and his involvement has become a more interesting subplot than anyone in Minnesota would prefer during a perfect start. As the Vikings get ready for Detroit in Week 8, how often the ball finds Jefferson figures to matter just as much as the matchup itself, especially if Minnesota wants its offense to match the pace of its record. Vikings Are 6-0 But Fans Can See The Real Test Coming
The unbeaten start has given Minnesota plenty to feel good about, but it has also come with an asterisk that is hard to ignore. Through six games, the Vikings have leaned heavily on a Brian Flores-led defense that has allowed the fewest points per game in the league, while the offense has often done just enough to keep the wins coming.
Now comes the stretch that will tell the real story. Detroit, Buffalo, Green Bay and San Francisco are next on the schedule, and three of those games are on the road, which should provide a far sterner measure of how far this 6-0 start can really go. If the Vikings are going to keep this rolling, they will need more than timely stops and survival mode on offense. [Read more 🡒]
