The Steelers are closing in on their new offensive coordinator, and it’s a name that should sound familiar to Mike McCarthy. Brian Angelichio, currently the Vikings’ passing game coordinator and tight ends coach, is reportedly nearing a deal to take over the offense in Pittsburgh under the team’s new head coach.
Angelichio interviewed with the Steelers earlier today, and it sounds like the meeting went well-well enough that a deal could be finalized in short order. If it gets done, it would reunite Angelichio with McCarthy, who worked with him for three seasons in Green Bay when Angelichio coached the Packers’ tight ends.
This wouldn’t be Angelichio’s first rodeo. The 53-year-old has spent over a decade coaching tight ends at the NFL level, starting with the Buccaneers back in 2012.
Since then, he’s made stops with the Browns, Commanders, Panthers, and of course, the Packers. Most recently, he’s been in Minnesota since 2022, where he took on dual responsibilities as tight ends coach and passing game coordinator.
That 2022 season in Minnesota wasn’t just solid-it was a breakout year for the Vikings’ aerial attack. With Angelichio helping guide the passing game, the Vikings soared into the league’s top five in passing offense. That kind of production doesn’t go unnoticed, especially for a Pittsburgh team looking to inject some life into its offense.
For the Steelers, this move would signal a clear direction under McCarthy: experience, familiarity, and a commitment to building a more dynamic passing game. Angelichio brings all three.
He’s not just a position coach-he’s someone who’s helped scheme up one of the league’s most efficient passing offenses. And with Pittsburgh’s young offensive core needing structure and creativity, Angelichio could be the right fit at the right time.
We’ll keep an eye on whether the deal gets finalized, but all signs point to Pittsburgh locking in a coordinator who knows how to get results-and knows exactly what McCarthy wants in an offense.
