Minnesota Vikings' standout receiver, Justin Jefferson, had a quick but telling response when asked about his quarterback, J.J. McCarthy: "Young Bull." This nickname hints at both the potential and the youthful energy McCarthy brings to the team.
Last season was a rollercoaster for Jefferson and the Vikings. After parting ways with Sam Darnold, who led them to the playoffs in 2024 before moving on to win a Super Bowl with the Seahawks, the Vikings put their trust in J.J.
McCarthy. The young quarterback, however, faced a challenging season, grappling with injuries that limited him to just 10 games.
He managed to throw for 1,632 yards and 11 touchdowns, but the team finished with a 9-8 record, missing the playoffs and raising questions about McCarthy's future.
Despite the setbacks, Jefferson remains optimistic about McCarthy's potential. Speaking on the "Up & Adams" show, Jefferson emphasized their commitment to developing McCarthy during the offseason.
"As of right now, J.J. McCarthy is my quarterback," Jefferson stated, highlighting the importance of offseason improvements to elevate McCarthy's game.
He acknowledged the quarterback's strengths and areas for growth, calling McCarthy a "great leader" and "motivator."
The Vikings' offensive struggles also impacted Jefferson's own performance, as he finished the 2025 season with 1,048 receiving yards and just two touchdowns.
Rumors have swirled about Jefferson possibly joining the Buffalo Bills to team up with 2024 NFL MVP Josh Allen. However, Jefferson was quick to dismiss these speculations.
On the "Up & Adams" show, he reaffirmed his commitment to Minnesota, humorously noting, "Minnesota is a lot more colder. So I must say I keep it cold in Minnesota."
Drafted 22nd overall in 2020, Jefferson has been a cornerstone for the Vikings, amassing 8,480 yards and 42 touchdowns over six seasons. His four-year, $140 million extension signed in 2024 ensures he remains a key part of the franchise through 2028. Jefferson’s loyalty and belief in his team and quarterback are clear, as he continues to focus on building a brighter future for the Vikings.
