Justin Jefferson has been a standout for the Minnesota Vikings, consistently delivering top-tier performances over his first five seasons. Even with an injury in 2023 that sidelined him for seven games, he was on track for another stellar year, likely surpassing 1,400 yards and securing a spot among the top-10 fantasy wide receivers.
Last season, the transition to J.J. McCarthy as the Vikings' quarterback raised some eyebrows but initially didn't seem too concerning.
However, Jefferson's performance told a different story. He managed three 100-yard games, all occurring when McCarthy was absent for at least half the game.
Despite catching both of his touchdowns from McCarthy, Jefferson's overall production with him was underwhelming.
Jefferson was targeted 141 times, the seventh-most in the league, but the quality of those targets was inconsistent, regardless of whether McCarthy, Carson Wentz, or Max Brosmer was throwing the ball. Jefferson remained professional through these challenges, but it was clear that a change was necessary.
Enter Kyler Murray, the new quarterback poised to rejuvenate Jefferson's fantasy value. While Vikings coach Kevin O'Connell hasn't officially announced it, Murray is expected to take the starting role, leaving McCarthy in the rearview mirror. Looking beyond 2026 is still uncertain, but Murray's presence is a game-changer.
In Arizona, Murray thrived when paired with elite receivers. His partnership with DeAndre Hopkins in 2020 was particularly fruitful, with Hopkins snagging 115 receptions for 1,407 yards and six touchdowns, finishing as a top-10 fantasy wide receiver. Although injuries and a suspension affected their subsequent seasons, Hopkins still managed impressive numbers when healthy.
Now, it's Jefferson's opportunity to become Murray's go-to target. With Jefferson in his prime and recognized as one of the league's best, the potential for an explosive season is palpable. Last year was tough, but with Murray under center, Jefferson is primed to reclaim his status among the elite fantasy receivers in 2026.
