The Vikings thought they were getting a bargain when they gave Jauan Jennings a one-year, $8 million deal. On paper, it made sense: a receiver with a track record for production and a nose for the end zone, plus Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison drawing attention away from him. That kind of setup usually pays off.
So far, it hasn’t.
Jennings missed Week 2 of the 2026 season for personal reasons, and in the other two games Minnesota has played, he hasn’t done much to settle any concerns. He was shut out in the season opener against the Packers, then managed just one catch for one yard last week against the Buccaneers. Through 78 offensive snaps, he has only one reception.
That’s a rough start for a player the Vikings expected to help right away. Jennings came into the season after a strong 2025 with San Francisco, where he made 15 starts and finished with 55 catches for 643 yards and nine touchdowns. He had 22 career touchdowns in 75 games before 2026, and that production made the contract look like a smart bet.
Instead, Minnesota is left wondering whether that money could have gone somewhere more useful.
The quarterback situation hasn’t helped. The Vikings have been unstable and inconsistent under center, even after trading J.J.
McCarthy away on Monday. But Jennings has been around long enough, and has enough talent, that he still should be able to produce in less-than-ideal conditions.
The numbers through Week 3 are hard to ignore. According to Pro Football Focus, Jennings has run 47 routes and has been targeted only three times.
When passes have come his way, that has translated to a passer rating of 2.8. For comparison, throwing the ball into the ground all day would net a passer rating of 39.6.
Minnesota’s passing game has been stuck in the mud too. The Vikings rank last in passing yards with 462 through three games and are also last in passing first downs with 19, despite having a receiver group that should be doing more damage.
There is still time for Jennings to change the story. He’s a 6-foot-3, 212-pound receiver who has shown over six NFL seasons that he can be a real part of an offense. The next chance comes against the Dolphins, who are giving up 231 passing yards per game, ranking 20th, and 9.1 yards per completion, which is 31st.
If Jennings takes advantage of that matchup and helps Minnesota win in Week 4, it would keep the Vikings undefeated and atop the NFC North. More importantly for the Vikings, it would start making that signing look a lot better.
If not, the buyer’s remorse is only going to get louder.

Vikings Have A New Broncos-Linked Roster Question To Watch
Brett Rypiens latest NFL stop came in Tampa Bay after the Buccaneers had to look for quarterback help following Baker Mayfields injury, another reminder of how quickly the leagues roster churn can open a door for familiar names. For Minnesota, the more relevant development is on the other side of the ball, where former Broncos running back Audric Estime surfaced for a tryout with the Vikings as teams continue sorting through depth and insurance options late in the season.
Estimes workout gives Minnesota another Broncos-linked roster question to monitor, especially as the Vikings keep an eye on the kind of backfield move that can quietly matter when injuries pile up. Delarrin Turner-Yell also had a tryout with New Orleans, and a number of other former Broncos have been moving through recent signings and auditions around the league, but the Vikings next decision on Estime is the one worth watching most closely. Undefeated Vikings Suddenly Have Two Big Week 4 Questions
The Vikings head into Week 4 at 3-0 with a home game against a Dolphins team still looking for its first win, and the matchup carries a couple of early-week questions that could shape the tone in Minneapolis. Justin Jeffersons ankle injury is the biggest one on Minnesotas side, while Miami arrives with its own uncertainty around quarterback Kyler Murray and the status of his game day health.
Brian Flores adds another layer to the build-up, since the former Dolphins head coach now runs Minnesotas defense and gets a shot at his old team. Both clubs will start sorting through their injury situations after their first practices of the week, and for the Vikings, the path to staying unbeaten may hinge on just how much of their offensive centerpiece is ready to go. Vikings Win Streak Is Hiding A Bigger Kevin OConnell Problem
The Vikings are still undefeated through three weeks, and the mood around the building has been shaped mostly by Brian Flores defense, which has done the heavy lifting while the rest of the roster tries to settle in. Even with that strong start, the broader picture is harder to ignore because Kevin OConnells offense has not come close to matching the pace of the teams record.
The issues only look bigger in the wake of Justin Jeffersons absence, since Minnesota has struggled to generate anything consistent without its top target. The most recent game brought the Vikings lowest offensive success rate in 20 seasons, and the club now sits last in the league in total yards per game, leaving OConnell with a much tougher problem than the win-loss column suggests.
