Eric Wilson Is Giving Brian Flores A New Vikings Defensive Option

Can recent strategic signings transform the NFC landscape as teams gear up with key players like DAndre Swift and veteran linemen?

The Bears locked in D’Andre Swift for the long haul on September 12, and the details show just how much they valued the move. Swift’s three-year extension is worth $33.75 million and includes $26 million guaranteed. Of that total, $20.5 million is new money guaranteed, while $19.19 million was fully guaranteed at signing through an $8 million signing bonus and his 2026 and 2027 salaries.

The structure also builds in annual per-game and roster bonuses, plus a $1 million roster bonus if Swift is still on the team on the fifth day of the 2029 league year. In all, the deal gives him $13.5 million in fully guaranteed compensation at signing beyond his existing 2026 salary structure, with more guarantees tied to his continued spot on the roster.

In Green Bay, the Packers added veteran offensive lineman Laken Tomlinson to the active roster, and offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich made it clear the team is leaning on his experience. Tomlinson’s background, Stenavich said, should help him settle in quickly because of what he has seen in multiple systems and his familiarity with the offense from his time with San Francisco and the New York Jets.

“Obviously he’s a vet. He’s got a lot of experience.

He’s been through a lot of this before as far as different defenses, different calls, things like that. He’s familiar with this offense in a lot of aspects with the familiarity with San Francisco and the New York Jets when he was there.

So I think he’ll acclimate pretty quickly. We’ll obviously see how it goes in practice and everything to see where he’s at,” Stenavich said, via the team’s site.

The Packers also added veteran OT Mekhi Becton, and Stenavich said there’s a chance both players could be in the Week 4 starting mix.

“Yeah, I think anything’s a possibility, for sure, so we’re going to do whatever we can to put the best guys out there. We’ve got to see where they’re at and just where they’re at with the playbook and the calls and everything like that, with the game plan. But yeah, everything’s a possibility and we’re going to try and explore all avenues,” Stenavich said.

He also pointed to a clear issue the line has to clean up: handling stunts.

“We’ve got to do a better job covering guys up. The one thing I talked with the offensive line about is making sure we’re more proactive in our sets, we’re more aggressive, using our hands better, covering guys up.

Some of the younger guys are playing a little passively. We’ve got to make sure we’re playing more on the line of scrimmage and being more physical in the pass game.”

Up in Minnesota, Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores had high praise for linebacker Eric Wilson, calling him a major part of the defense because of the way he can fill different roles and keep the unit moving.

“Yeah, I mean, E-Wil has been tremendous for lack of a better term,” Flores said, via Vikings Wire. “ He’s smart, he’s physical, he’s unselfish, he’s a very good blitzer, he’s good in pass coverage, he plays multiple positions, And so, you know, he means a lot to our defense.

His versatility, you know, allows us to give other guys, you know, a break. You know, he goes in for Gink (Andrew Van Ginkel), he goes in to play Will, he plays some Mike.”

Dolphins Vikings Game Had A Wild Referee Moment Fans Need To See

The Vikings meeting with the Dolphins had plenty going on, but one of the most replayed moments had nothing to do with a catch or a turnover. Late in the action, NFL referee Adrian Hill got caught in the middle of a tackle and was knocked to the turf by Vikings linebacker Eric Wilson, a collision that quickly turned an ordinary officiating sequence into the kind of scene fans kept sending around.

Hill stayed down briefly before getting back to his feet and confronting Wilson, with another official stepping in to separate things. The clip spread quickly on social media and drew a mix of reactions, the sort of unintended sideline drama that can take on a life of its own long after the game settles into the final score. Vikings Keep Winning Despite One Offensive Problem Fans Can't Ignore

The Vikings keep stacking wins even as the offense has struggled to put together the kind of full-field performance fans usually expect from a contender. Minnesota has won three straight games without cracking 250 total yards in any of them, an unusual run in the Super Bowl era, but the results have held up because the rest of the roster has carried its weight.

Under Kevin OConnell, the formula has leaned on a strong defense, steady special teams and a team-wide emphasis on avoiding turnovers. It is a reminder that ugly box scores do not always stop a good team, especially when the other phases are doing enough to keep the Vikings in control. [Read more 🡒]

Jauan Jennings Faces Real Vikings Pressure In A Huge Opportunity

With Justin Jefferson ruled out for the matchup with the Miami Dolphins because of an ankle injury, the Vikings are suddenly leaning on a receiver room that looks a lot different than it did a week ago. Jordan Addison is now set to step into the WR1 role, and the ripple effect pushes Jauan Jennings into a much larger WR2 assignment, giving him one of the clearest chances yet to justify the playing time he has already been getting.

Jennings arrived with real expectations after signing his recent contract, but the production has not matched the opportunity so far. Minnesota does not have the luxury of easing into this one, either, because the offense needs someone beyond Addison to help absorb Jeffersons absence and keep the passing game moving against Miami. For Jennings, it is the kind of spot that can change the tone around a season quickly, even if the full answer is still waiting to be written. [Read more 🡒]
