Cris Carters Advice To Justin Jefferson Says Plenty About Vikings QB Drama

Cris Carter's bold advice to Justin Jefferson underscores the importance of silence amidst the Minnesota Vikings' quarterback carousel and early-season success.

Cris Carter says he had to deliver a blunt warning to Justin Jefferson to keep the Minnesota Vikings star from speaking out about the team’s quarterback mess.

On Tuesday, Carter joined Kay Adams and explained how he’s tried to guide Jefferson through a stretch defined by constant turnover under center. Jefferson has caught passes from 10 different quarterbacks in seven seasons, a reality that has made it harder for him to keep pushing even higher and help the Vikings reach the ultimate goal.

The Hall of Famer said Jefferson has handled the situation without publicly complaining, and Carter took some credit for that approach.

“We’re working on some stuff that’s not normal receiver stuff. If you look at the quarterback controversy, he hasn’t said one word. I threatened his life and told him to keep his mouth shut,” Carter recalled.

He then laid out the advice he gave Jefferson.

“Don’t be like myself. Don’t be like any other wide receiver.

Keep doing exactly what you’re doing. You got a great image here.

The organization loves you,” Carter added. “Don’t complain about the quarterback.

Don’t mention the quarterback unless you can say good things about him. And it’s only going to help you.”

Jefferson has already played through a lot of change. Last season, the Vikings had JJ McCarthy, Carson Wentz and Max Brosmer at quarterback, and then Minnesota signed Kyler Murray.

Wentz started the first two duels, and Murray has since helped stabilize the position, with the Vikings off to a 5-0 start. The team also shipped McCarthy to New York.

So far, Jefferson has kept his focus on the field. In four games this season, he has 19 catches for 258 yards and three touchdowns. He’s still building chemistry with Murray while dealing with health issues, but the early signs point in the right direction.

Minnesota now sits atop the NFC North and remains one of three undefeated teams this campaign, alongside the Chiefs and 49ers.

Vikings Suddenly Face A Big Question About Their Early Edge

Through five weeks, the Vikings have spent much of the season looking like one of the leagues most opportunistic defenses, and that has been a big part of why theyve stayed in the conversation early. The weekly numbers also show how quickly the turnover picture can shape the standings, with Minnesota sitting near the top of the league in takeaways alongside Las Vegas and still benefiting from a defense that has given the offense extra chances.

The concern now is whether that early edge is still as sturdy as it looked a couple of Sundays ago. Minnesota has not been getting the same splash plays lately, and the timing matters with a Week 6 slate that will keep the pressure on every team trying to separate itself from the pack. If the takeaways slow down, the Vikings may have to prove they can keep winning without the shortcut that helped them build momentum in the first place. [Read more 🡒]

Vikings May Have One Missing Piece In Their Undefeated Start

The Vikings are still sitting among the NFLs unbeaten teams after Week 5, but the path theyve taken has looked a little different from the leagues other early heavyweights. Their offense has not matched the kind of efficient production usually associated with top contenders, which has led some around the team to look for a more sustainable formula than simply asking the quarterback to carry everything.

Minnesota does have pieces of that formula already in place. The defense has been the best in the league at keeping opponents out of the end zone, and special teams has taken a step forward as well. The remaining question is whether the ground game can become sturdy enough to round out the formula and give the Vikings the kind of balance that could keep their unbeaten start from feeling fragile. Vikings Suddenly Have A Jauan Jennings Trade Deadline Decision

Jauan Jennings has become a late-season name to watch for Minnesota as the NFL trade deadline approaches on Nov. 10. The Vikings receiver has had a limited role in the offense this season, and his situation has started to draw attention around the league, with multiple teams already mentioned as possible landing spots if Minnesota decides to move him.

The conversation is not just about whether Jennings still has a future in purple, but how the Vikings want to handle the value attached to his deal. With interest reportedly building from clubs such as the 49ers, Chiefs, Colts and Raiders, Minnesota is weighing whether a trade makes more sense than simply cutting ties, especially given the way the contract is structured.
