The Washington Commanders have made it official with Stefon Diggs, announcing the veteran wide receiver’s signing while clearing a roster spot by releasing guard Tyler Cooper.
Diggs, 32, arrives with a long paper trail of big contracts and big production. The former fifth-round pick entered the league with the Vikings in 2015 and was still on his rookie deal when Minnesota handed him a five-year, $72 million extension in 2018.
Minnesota later moved him to Buffalo in 2020, landing a package of draft picks that included a first-round selection. After that trade, Diggs got another major payday from the Bills, who signed him to a four-year, $104 million extension while he was due base salaries of $11.775 million and $11.85 million over the final two years of his deal in 2022 and 2023.
His next stop came when Buffalo sent him to the Texans for a 2025 second-round pick. At that point, Diggs was due base salaries of $18.5 million and $18 million over the next two seasons, but Houston reworked the contract to give him a raise and make him an unrestricted free agent in 2025.
Diggs then played out that deal and signed a three-year, $60 million contract with the Patriots in 2025. New England released him after one season, even though he stayed on the field all year. In 2025, Diggs played all 17 games for the Patriots and finished with 85 catches on 102 targets for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns.
