Adam Thielen’s post-playing path may be taking shape faster than anyone expected.
The former Minnesota Vikings receiver had seemed headed toward a clean finish in Carolina, where he wanted to return home for what was supposed to be his final NFL season. Panthers general manager Dan Morgan made that happen.
But Thielen’s second run with the Vikings never found traction. He finished with just eight catches in 11 games, was a healthy scratch in Week 13, and then asked for - and received - his release.
That led him to Pittsburgh, where he closed last season with the Steelers and caught 11 passes in five games alongside his buddy Aaron Rodgers. It wasn’t the farewell he had originally envisioned a few months earlier, but Thielen had wanted a larger role than Minnesota was willing to offer, and he got it elsewhere.
Now there’s a new wrinkle: Thielen showed up Monday on ESPN’s “NFL Live” as an analyst.
A clip posted by the NFL on ESPN account on X showed Thielen breaking down the effect a star receiver can have on an offense, using A.J. Brown as the example.

The appearance may have been a one-time shot. On screen, Thielen was not introduced as an “ESPN NFL analyst” when his playing credentials were displayed, and the network has multiple former players who could fill the opening created after Ryan Clark was laid off before a permanent hire is made.
Still, the sight of Thielen in that chair was enough to turn heads. It could simply have been a short trip to Bristol for a temporary spot on “NFL Live” while he weighs what comes next in retirement. Or it could be the first step toward a longer broadcasting run with ESPN, or possibly NFL Network through the companies’ merger connection.
For now, it’s just a surprise appearance. But it was enough to make Thielen’s next move feel a lot closer than expected.

Everson Griffen is back in the conversation around the Vikings, and this time it is because the former Minnesota defensive end says he wants another shot in the NFL. Vikings Camp Opens With One Massive Question Still Hanging
Training camp is finally here in Minnesota, and the quarterback room is already the center of attention.
