The Minnesota Twins are making their final roster decisions as spring training winds down in Florida. With just two days left before they head north, they've made some notable cuts.
Ryan Kreidler, known for his defensive prowess at shortstop and center field, and Eric Wagaman, a corner infielder/outfielder, have been optioned to Class AAA. Kreidler struggled at the plate this spring, managing just six hits in 39 at-bats, which translates to a .154 average. He did show some power with a homer but also racked up 11 strikeouts.
The competition for the backup shortstop role remains intense, with Tristan Gray and non-roster invitee Orlando Arcia still in the mix to support starter Brooks Lee.
Wagaman, who faced stiff competition for playing time at the corner infield spots, posted a .256 average with 10 hits in his 39 at-bats. Like Kreidler, he showed some pop with a home run but also had 13 strikeouts.
Currently, the Twins have 34 active players in camp. This includes pitchers David Festa and Travis Adams, who are likely to start the season on the injured list. The team also has a crowded catcher situation with four players still in camp: Alex Jackson and David Bañuelos are vying for spots behind the expected duo of Ryan Jeffers and Victor Caratini.
As the Twins finalize their roster, these decisions will shape the team's depth and versatility as they gear up for the regular season.
