The Mets’ offseason could get busy in a hurry, and Mark Vientos has already surfaced as a name to watch.
New York was knocked out of postseason contention on Monday for the second straight year, a frustrating outcome for a club that went into the year with Juan Soto and Francisco Lindor in the mix. If the front office starts reshaping the roster, Vientos may be one of the players most likely to draw interest.
FanSided’s Jake Elman pointed to first base as a spot where the Mets need a clear upgrade after the failed Jorge Polanco experiment. In his view, Vientos could be the kind of low-risk target a rebuilding team would circle.
"Vientos has managed -1.3 bWAR since the start of last season, and he’s since moved from third to first. His versatility as a corner infielder and his affordability - he’s under team control through 2030 - could make him an appealing buy-low option for a rebuilding club," Elman wrote.
The 26-year-old is batting .214 with 13 home runs and a .667 OPS in 2026. That comes two seasons after he set career bests with 27 homers and an .837 OPS.
Elman sees the Minnesota Twins as the most likely landing spot for the right-handed hitter.
"Although the Yankees also came to mind, we’ll predict Vientos lands in the Twin Cities. Josh Bell is a pending free agent, which could open DH reps for either Vientos or first baseman Royce Lewis," Elman added. "He’s not the flashiest name for the Twins, but he’ll likely come relatively cheap."
The Yankees were mentioned as another possibility, though that fit only really makes sense if Vientos moves back to third base. With Luis Garcia Jr. and Ben Rice under contract, New York appears set at first, though a platoon partner for Ryan McMahon at third could make some sense.
For now, though, the Twins look like the cleaner fit on paper. Whether the Mets actually shop Vientos remains unclear.

The clubhouse could also be approaching the end of the road with three familiar veterans: catcher Ryan Jeffers, first baseman/designated hitter Josh Bell and pitcher Tyler Rogers, all of whom are set to hit free agency this offseason.
Jeffers and Bell both appear unlikely to be back, which gives Minnesota a chance to start sorting through what the next version of the roster might look like. Rogers is the more interesting case, since there is at least a path for him to remain in the organization on a minor-league deal, but for now the larger question is how many of these familiar pieces the Twins will actually carry into next year. Twins Suddenly Have A Bigger Left Field Concern Than Expected
Trevor Larnachs sore left wrist has turned what looked like a temporary left-field issue for the Twins into something more complicated. He is undergoing an MRI, and while Minnesota had already been leaning on Emmanuel Rodriguez to fill in, the club may now need to plan for a longer stretch without one of its more established outfield options.
Rodriguez started in left field in Larnachs absence and could keep getting chances if the Twins have to play it cautious. There is a little more good news elsewhere on the roster: Kaelen Culpepper is expected to be available off the bench after a right shoulder injury, and Royce Lewis is working through a sore left shoulder but is not expected to miss much time.
