The Athletics and Twins open a three-game set Monday night in West Sacramento, and both clubs are bringing a long injury list into the series.
Jeff McNeil’s Athletics, 50-80, will host Josh Bell’s Minnesota Twins, 63-66, at 9:40 p.m. ET. The matchup to start the series is Jeffrey Springs against Zebby Matthews, with NBCS-CA and Twins.TV carrying the game.
The series continues Tuesday at 9:40 p.m. ET, when Gage Jump is scheduled to face Taj Bradley.
Wednesday’s finale is set for 9:05 p.m. ET and features J.T.
Ginn against Connor Prielipp. NBCS-CA and Twins.TV will televise each game.
Minnesota comes in with a more balanced recent stretch, going 5-5 over its last 10 games. The Twins have hit just six home runs in that span, but they’ve posted a .272 average and a .342 on-base percentage. Their pitching has also been a bit steadier, with a 5.16 ERA and an 8.8 K/9 mark over the last 10.
The Athletics, meanwhile, are 3-7 over their last 10 and have been more explosive at the plate, launching 13 home runs while batting .249. Their .334 OBP and .410 slugging percentage show some pop, but the run prevention hasn’t held up. Oakland has a 5.39 ERA over that same stretch, along with a .290 batting average against and a 7.5 K/9 rate.
Both injury reports are loaded.
For the Athletics, Jacob Wilson is on the 10-day IL with a shoulder issue after hitting .266/.298/.388 with seven home runs and 37 RBI. Shea Langeliers is also on the 10-day IL because of a knee injury, and he’s been at .263/.332/.497 with 23 homers and 51 RBI. Josh Kuroda-Grauer is sidelined on the 10-day IL with a testicle injury after posting .417/.435/.583 with one homer and four RBI.
José Suarez is on the 15-day IL with a hip injury and has gone 1-4 with a 5.22 ERA and 9.2 K/9. The 60-day IL includes Justin Sterner, Denzel Clarke, Nick Kurtz, Brooks Kriske, Mark Leiter Jr., Brent Rooker, Luis Severino, Tyler Soderstrom and Gunnar Hoglund.
Kurtz has hit .256/.396/.483 with 21 home runs and 69 RBI, while Soderstrom has produced .245/.338/.472 with 19 homers and 56 RBI. Rooker is listed at .200/.281/.389 with 10 home runs and 29 RBI, and Severino has a 2-6 record with a 4.16 ERA and 9.3 K/9.
Minnesota’s list is shorter but still significant. Austin Martin is on the 10-day IL with a hamstring injury and is hitting .241/.352/.333 with three homers and 23 RBI. Joe Ryan is on the 15-day IL with a glute injury and has gone 6-8 with a 4.08 ERA and 9.9 K/9.
The Twins also have Pablo Lopez, David Festa, Cole Sands, Mike Paredes, Anthony Banda and Mick Abel on the 60-day IL. Sands is 1-1 with an 8.25 ERA and 8.3 K/9, while Abel has a 1-2 record, a 3.98 ERA and 10.2 K/9.
