Minnesota Fans Will HATE This Drake Lindsey Rumor

Ohio State faces a tough challenge as key quarterback transfers Arch Manning and Braden Atkinson might opt for paths away from the Buckeyes, limiting their 2027 prospects.

Ohio State may need to shop the transfer portal for a veteran quarterback, but the list of realistic targets is already looking thin.

Julian Sayin’s throwing shoulder injury could shut down what may be his final college season, and if Luke Fahey or Tavien St. Clair isn’t ready to handle the job, the Buckeyes could be pushed toward an experienced stopgap for 2027.

That’s the theory, anyway. In practice, two of the biggest names tied to that conversation may already be moving out of reach.

Braden Atkinson, the breakout quarterback at Oregon State, has become one of the hottest names floating around the portal chatter. But there was a strong sign Friday afternoon that he may be staying put. Beavers receiver Jesse Legree announced he was re-signing with Oregon State for the 2027 season, a move that suggests Atkinson may not be headed anywhere.

Atkinson always looked like an enticing swing for Ohio State, even if he wasn’t an ideal match for Arthur Smith’s system. A big arm in Columbus would’ve been fun to imagine. That possibility may be fading fast.

Arch Manning is the other name drawing attention, but the talk around him points away from Ohio State and toward the SEC. Manning took over as Texas’ full-time QB1 and opened that run with a 14-7 loss to the Buckeyes in Week 1 of the 2025 season. It would have made for a neat ending if his career circled back to Columbus, but the rumor mill says he may instead follow an Ole Miss path if he leaves Texas.

“Arch could transfer,” NFL insider Tom Pelissero said on The Bill Simmons Podcast. “I texted one person who's known Arch for a long time, and I said, 'Where do you see Arch in 2027,' and his response was, 'Ole Miss.'”

For now, that’s all it is: a rumor. And if Manning does leave, the chatter doesn’t have him headed to the Big Ten.

That leaves Minnesota quarterback Drake Lindsey as the cleaner fit if Ohio State needs to pivot. The Golden Gophers have made progress under P.J. Fleck, but they may not be able to outbid Ohio State if the Buckeyes decide to make a run.

Lindsey is the kind of veteran quarterback who makes sense for Smith’s offense, and he’s the name Mark Pantoni and company should be watching closely if Fahey or St. Clair isn’t ready to take over in Sayin’s absence. If Sayin doesn’t come back and instead turns his attention to the NFL, Ohio State’s need gets even sharper.

So the portal options may be narrowing before Ohio State even gets to the serious part of the search. Two of the biggest names may have already slipped off the board.

Twins Face One Big Austin Martin Decision This Offseason

Austin Martin spent most of the 2026 season giving the Twins a useful but incomplete picture, and that is what makes his winter so interesting. Over 118 games, he finished with a .228/.341/.315 batting line, enough to show some value without settling the bigger question of where he fits best on a roster that is always trying to balance depth, flexibility and matchup advantages.

Minnesotas next step is to figure out whether Martin can thrive in a more defined platoon look against left-handed pitching, or whether the club is better served using that roster spot another way. The front office plans to evaluate him in a limited role before making a final call, which leaves his status in the middle of the Twins' offseason puzzle rather than at the center of a clean answer. Twins Face A Tough Ryan Jeffers Decision They Can't Delay

Ryan Jeffers is headed into a winter that could reshape the Twins catching picture, and the club may have to make its call before the market really opens up. The looming free-agent issue is straightforward enough on the surface: Minnesota would like to keep a productive regular in the mix, but it is also balancing the long-term path of top catching prospect Vahn Lackey, which makes a multiyear commitment feel complicated.

The market could make the decision even trickier. Clubs such as the Yankees and Cubs have been floated as possible fits, and both would have to weigh Jeffers against their own roster plans and any added cost that comes with signing him. For the Twins, the question is less about whether Jeffers can help now and more about how far they are willing to go to keep him from reaching a market that may already be forming. [Read more 🡒]

Twins Fans Should Be Watching Kyle DeBarge Right Now

The Arizona Fall League is starting to do what it usually does this time of year: give front offices and fans a fresh look at young hitters who are trying to finish the season on a high note. Among the names popping up in the weekly rundown, Kyle DeBarge is one Minnesota followers will want to keep tabs on, especially with the crop of top bats spread across Salt River, Peoria and Scottsdale.

DeBarge spent 2026 at Double-A Wichita, and his placement in the AFL gives the Twins another chance to evaluate where he stands against advanced competition. For a club always searching for the next wave of infield help and offensive depth, his progress is worth watching closely, even before the bigger numbers from this fall start to settle in.
