Marlins Just Discovered Chris Paddack Problem

Marlins fans are getting a firsthand look at the performance concerns with Chris Paddack that Twins fans know all too well.

Chris Paddack's debut with the Miami Marlins was a tough one, and that's putting it mildly. After signing a one-year, $4 million deal in the offseason, Paddack took the mound against the Chicago White Sox at LoanDepot Park, hoping to make a strong first impression.

The opening two innings were promising, as he struck out three and allowed no baserunners. But things quickly unraveled.

In the third inning, Paddack gave up a leadoff double to Everson Pereira. He managed to retire the next two batters, but then allowed back-to-back singles and a three-run homer to Austin Hays, putting the White Sox up 4-0. Another single followed before Lenyn Sosa grounded out, mercifully ending the inning.

The fourth inning didn't offer any respite for Paddack. He started by giving up two singles, then hit Luisangel Acuña with a pitch after a sacrifice bunt by Edgar Quero.

Miguel Vargas then launched a grand slam, cementing a rough outing for Paddack. He managed to strike out Munetaka Murakami and Hays to conclude his day, having allowed eight hits in total.

The White Sox ultimately took the game 9-4, leaving Paddack with an 0-1 record and a daunting 18.00 ERA to start the season.

For those familiar with Paddack's journey, this rocky start might not come as a shock. Originally acquired by the Twins from the Padres on Opening Day 2022, Paddack's time in Minnesota was marred by injuries, including a second Tommy John surgery. He made a brief return as a reliever in 2023, showing flashes of potential during the postseason against the Astros.

In 2024, Paddack faced another setback with a forearm strain, limiting him to 17 starts and a 4.99 ERA. His 2025 season was healthier but still challenging, posting a 4.95 ERA in 21 starts before being traded to the Tigers. Unfortunately, his struggles continued in Detroit, where he ended the season with a 6.32 ERA and was moved to the bullpen.

While Twins fans might be relieved he's found a new home, there's hope that Paddack can turn things around with the Marlins. It's a fresh start, and with his talent, there's always a chance for redemption.
