The Rangers made a pair of roster moves tied to both immediate need and long-term bookkeeping, selecting infielder Jonah Bride from Triple-A Round Rock and shifting Jack Leiter to the 60-day injured list.
To clear a spot on the active roster, Texas optioned outfielder Alejandro Osuna to Round Rock. Leiter’s move opened a 40-man slot, while Bride’s contract was selected from the minors.
Bride arrives after a solid run at Round Rock and a bumpy stretch of recent big league seasons. Drafted by the Athletics in the 23rd round in 2018, he has appeared in the majors every year from 2022 through 2025, splitting 214 games and 690 plate appearances between the A’s, Marlins and Twins. His best stretch came with Miami in 2024, when he posted a .276/.357/.461 line with 11 home runs, a 20.2% strikeout rate and an 11% walk rate in a career-high 272 plate appearances.
The rest of 2025 went sideways after that. Bride got off to a slow April with the Marlins, was traded to Minnesota for cash considerations, and never found his footing with the Twins.
He finished the season without a homer and hit just .170/.248/.188 with a 23 wRC+ and a 31.2% strikeout rate in 125 plate appearances. Minnesota designated him for assignment last June, and after he cleared waivers he spent the rest of the year in Triple-A.
That led to a minor league deal with Texas in the offseason, and Bride has done enough at Round Rock to earn the call. In 2025, he hit .282/.401/.425 with 10 home runs and nine stolen bases, while drawing more walks than strikeouts - 16.7% to 16%. Even in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League, his production has been 16% better than league average by wRC+.
Defensively, Bride has worked at the corner infield spots and second base in the majors, with most of his time coming at third. The right-handed bat will start there for the Rangers on Sunday against Orioles left-hander Cade Povich. Since Bride is out of options, Texas would have to put him on waivers if it wants to send him back to the minors.
Leiter, meanwhile, remains on the shelf after going on the 15-day IL on June 19 and then having arthroscopic ankle surgery a few days later. The move to the 60-day IL doesn’t change his return outlook. He threw a 33-pitch live batting practice session on Saturday, though he has not yet started a rehab assignment.
