Anthony Banda Stuns Fans with Reaction to Dodgers Trade News

Anthony Banda reflects on his unexpected departure from the Dodgers, revealing the complexities of professional baseball trades.

Anthony Banda, a standout left-handed reliever, made a significant impact during his two years with the Los Angeles Dodgers, helping the team secure back-to-back World Series titles. Yet, in a surprising move, Banda was designated for assignment before spring training, leading to his acquisition by the Minnesota Twins in exchange for international bonus pool money.

Reflecting on the moment he learned about his departure from the Dodgers, Banda described his reaction as one of complete shock. Although he anticipated a potential trade at some point, the designation process caught him off guard.

On the "Foul Territory" podcast, Banda shared, “I couldn’t get any words out-I was so shocked.” He sensed that Dodgers GM Brandon Gomes was equally disheartened about the situation, which added to the emotional weight of the call.

“Gomes didn’t seem happy to be on that end of the phone call,” Banda noted. Despite the lack of extensive conversation, Gomes assured Banda they would reconnect in a few days.

As Banda approaches his 10th MLB season, having played for eight different teams, his time with the Dodgers stands out as the pinnacle of his career. Despite the abrupt ending, Banda holds no grudges against the organization.

Instead, he praises the Dodgers for their exceptional operations and the care they show to players and their families. “You can’t take it personally,” Banda explained.

“They’re amazing-they take care of families. It’s just the business side of things.”

Banda expressed gratitude for the opportunities and memorable moments he experienced with the Dodgers, emphasizing the importance of appreciating what you have in baseball and moving forward. Now, as he joins the Minnesota Twins, Banda is set to play a vital role under new manager Derek Shelton. With the Twins having traded their top relief pitchers last year, Banda will be one of three lefty relievers in their bullpen, alongside Tyler Rogers and Kody Fuderburk, ready to make his mark in the upcoming season.
