The Minnesota Timberwolves finally snapped out of their five-game funk on Monday night, delivering a much-needed 108-83 beatdown of the Golden State Warriors at home. It was the kind of emphatic win that can reset a locker room’s energy-and it came without their star guard Anthony Edwards, who was a late scratch due to a foot injury that’s been nagging him.
After the game, head coach Chris Finch didn’t offer much clarity-or optimism-on Edwards’ status moving forward.
“It was news to me, honestly. He had pain from the foot that's been troubling him,” Finch said, pointing to a lingering issue that’s clearly not going away quietly.
The timing of the injury is far from ideal. Minnesota is staring down a tough stretch of the schedule, including two sets of back-to-backs this week. While Finch didn’t confirm whether Edwards would sit out one of those games, he noted that he hadn’t yet spoken with the performance staff since the decision was made to hold Edwards out Monday.
“That’s not been communicated to me, but again, I haven't talked really to the performance team since the decision was made to sit him tonight,” Finch said.
The Timberwolves are in the thick of a schedule crunch that’s testing their depth and resilience. Monday’s game marked the second straight day facing the Warriors, after Saturday’s originally scheduled game was pushed to Sunday due to a second ICE-related shooting in the city. That rescheduling turned this into an impromptu back-to-back, and Minnesota responded with their most dominant performance in weeks.
Edwards’ health is becoming a storyline to watch. He’s already missed several games this season and, while he came back in spectacular fashion with a 55-point explosion against the Spurs last week, the recurring foot issue is clearly a concern. The team will need to manage his minutes and availability carefully if they hope to keep him fresh for the stretch run.
Still, Monday night was a reminder of what this Timberwolves squad is capable of when they’re locked in. Even without their offensive centerpiece, they overwhelmed Golden State on both ends of the floor. After weeks of frustrating losses-including a head-scratcher against the Bulls-this was the kind of bounce-back performance that can steady the ship.
Next up: a road test against the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday. Whether Edwards suits up or not, the Timberwolves will need to carry this momentum into a pivotal week.
