Naz Reid Faces Key Change To Reach Next Level

Naz Reid's quest for basketball greatness hinges on achieving consistent performances, crucial for the Wolves' playoff aspirations.

Naz Reid is on a journey to elevate his game, and he's well aware of the key to unlocking his potential: consistency. After practice on Tuesday, Reid emphasized the importance of being reliable across all facets of his game. “I want to make sure I’m consistent in every aspect that I bring to the table,” he shared, highlighting a theme that has followed him throughout his career.

Reid has always had the capability to swing a game in his team’s favor with a stellar performance off the bench. Yet, his career has been marked by highs and lows, with nights of brilliance often followed by those where nothing seems to click.

This season, however, there's a sense that things are changing. His shot looks steadier, and his effort more relentless.

But does the data back up the eye test?

Taking a closer look at Reid’s shooting consistency reveals an intriguing story. Evaluating his true shooting percentage-an all-encompassing measure that includes twos, threes, and free throws-paints a picture of Reid’s performance.

In the 2023-24 season, Reid's shooting fell within the league-average range (52.0% to 64.0%) in just 23.5% of his games. He was either below average in 37.0% of games or above average in 40.0%.

This means he was on one end of the spectrum in 77.0% of his games, highlighting a volatility that can be both thrilling and challenging for a team seeking steady bench scoring.

The following season, 2024-25, showed slight improvement. Reid’s average-range shooting games dropped to 22.5%, with 35.0% below and 42.5% above average.

Again, he was in the extremes 77.5% of the time. Fast forward to this season, and Reid’s average-range games have decreased to 21.7%.

With 44.9% of games below average and 33.3% above, he’s been on the extremes 78.2% of the time.

On the surface, this might suggest a decline in consistency. But there's more to the story.

Reid faced a tough start to the season, dealing with personal tragedy and its impact on his performance. From October through December, only 17.6% of his games were in the average range.

However, since the start of 2026, he’s found his rhythm, with 25.7% of his games hitting that average mark.

This turnaround is significant. In the latter half of the season, Reid has been nearly as consistent as teammate Anthony Edwards, who has 27.6% of his games in the average range. This newfound steadiness is a testament to Reid’s resilience and growth.

As the Wolves fight for playoff positioning, Reid’s challenge will be to maintain this level of consistency. The team will benefit from fewer dramatic swings and more of the reliable play he’s shown in recent months. If Reid can continue this trajectory, he’s on his way to becoming a top-tier player in the league.
