Mike Conley Jr. Reunites With Timberwolves, Coach Finch Plans Final 26 Games

Mike Conley Jr. returns to the Timberwolves, bringing his veteran leadership as the team battles for playoff positioning in the Western Conference's final stretch.

The Minnesota Timberwolves have brought back veteran guard Mike Conley Jr., just two weeks after trading him away in a series of strategic moves. Initially sent to the Chicago Bulls in a three-team deal, Conley was then packaged with Coby White and traded to the Charlotte Hornets. After being waived by the Hornets, Conley found his way back to Minnesota, a maneuver that not only reduced the Timberwolves' luxury tax burden but also opened the door for acquiring guard Ayo Dosunmu from the Bulls.

Conley, known for his leadership and experience, expressed his happiness about returning to the Timberwolves. Despite a dip in his playing time and production this season, Conley's presence in the locker room remains invaluable. He’s a four-time NBA Sportsmanship Award winner and has twice been honored as a teammate of the year, underscoring his respected status in the league.

Head coach Chris Finch shared his outlook for the remaining 26 regular season games, with the Timberwolves sitting in 6th place in the Western Conference, just 1.5 games shy of 3rd. The team is gearing up to host the Dallas Mavericks on Friday, although they’ll be without Dallas’ star rookie Cooper Flagg, who is sidelined with an ankle injury.

This series of moves and Conley’s return signal a strategic push by the Timberwolves as they aim to climb the standings and solidify their playoff positioning.
