Minnesota's Surprise Carson Wentz Decision Changes Everything In North

Vikings bolster quarterback roster by re-signing seasoned veteran Carson Wentz amid strategic offseason moves.

The Minnesota Vikings are making moves to bolster their quarterback lineup by re-signing veteran Carson Wentz on a one-year deal. This decision adds depth to a quarterback room that already features Kyler Murray and J.J. McCarthy, signaling a strategic push to strengthen their offensive options.

Wentz, now 32, has had quite the journey since being a first-round pick for the Eagles back in 2016. Initially, he was on a four-year, $26.7 million rookie contract, which included a hefty $16.7 million signing bonus. The Eagles picked up his fifth-year option, but eventually traded him to the Colts for first- and third-round picks after signing him to a four-year, $128 million extension.

His time with the Colts was brief, leading to a trade to the Commanders. After a short stint there, Wentz found himself with the Rams as a backup before the Chiefs brought him on for the 2024 season. He joined the Vikings in August and has since played in five games, completing 65.1% of his passes for 1,216 yards, with six touchdowns and five interceptions.

Initially, there was buzz about Wentz potentially joining the Jets, but that option faded after their acquisition of Geno Smith. Now, with Wentz back in Minnesota, the Vikings are looking poised to leverage his experience and skills to enhance their playmaking capabilities.
