No. 4 Indiana heads into Saturday’s home matchup with Minnesota carrying the kind of pressure that comes with being ranked high and playing like an offense still searching for itself. The Hoosiers are 20.5-point favorites in Bloomington, but the number hasn’t quieted the concern around a unit that has managed only 48 points combined over its last three games.
Indiana got past Michigan 13-6 in overtime last week, yet that win did little to settle nerves about the way the offense is functioning. Josh Hoover has been at the center of that frustration, and while the Hoosiers have still found ways to win, they’ve done it without much help from their quarterback. That won’t have to change for Indiana to survive this one, but the staff would love to see some signs of rhythm before the stretch run and the College Football Playoff picture tightens up.
Minnesota arrives at 5-2 with some confidence after beating Iowa 13-10 to claim the Floyd of Rosedale trophy. PJ Fleck is 2-for-2 in rivalry games this season, and the Gophers have already shown they can make games ugly enough to hang around. They now walk into a brutal two-game stretch against top-10 opponents in Indiana and UCLA, and if the Hoosiers get distracted by a looming trip to USC, this could get uncomfortable fast.
The matchup points to a defense-first fight. Both teams leaned on their defensive playmakers in low-scoring wins a week ago, and Indiana’s side of the ball has been the steadier force overall.
Minnesota has flashed big defensive performances, including last week against Iowa, but it has also shown vulnerability against teams with the kind of outside athletes that can stress the field. Indiana has that with Charlie Becker and Nick Marsh; the issue is whether Hoover can deliver the ball with enough timing and precision to make those matchups count.
Minnesota’s path to an upset is narrower and much more fragile. Drake Lindsey has to take care of the football, and that has been a problem all season.
He leads the Big Ten with six interceptions and has thrown at least one in each of Minnesota’s last five games. Against an Indiana defense that should be able to load up against the run and make him throw, every possession becomes a test of discipline.
Saturday’s kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. ET on CBS at Memorial Stadium in Bloomington, Indiana.
And with the way Indiana has been playing, the safer angle looks like the scoreboard staying more cramped than the spread suggests. If the Hoosiers control the game the way they usually have lately, points may come at a premium.
Pick: UNDER 41.5

Gophers Just Landed An In-State Recruiting Win Fans Will Notice
A big in-state recruiting win is taking shape for the Gophers, who landed Hastings High School standout Zack Shatek for their 2027 class. Shatek, the leading rusher in Minnesota high school football, had been committed to South Dakota State before an unofficial visit to Minneapolis changed the direction of his recruitment and led to an offer from Minnesota.
Shatek has been one of the most productive players in the state this season, piling up 1,964 rushing yards and 24 touchdowns as a senior. For Minnesota, bringing in a player with that kind of homegrown profile matters both for the roster down the line and for the message it sends in-state, especially when a prospect already familiar with the region decides the Gophers are the right fit. Gophers Land Intriguing In-State Back With Real Big Ten Upside
Minnesota added an intriguing in-state target to its future backfield picture after hosting running back prospect Zack Shatek, a player whose strong high school season has put him firmly on the radar. The appeal is easy to see from the Gophers side: Shatek has been productive, physical and productive enough to draw plenty of attention, with a scouting report that points to a runner who can challenge defenses in multiple ways while still having room to sharpen parts of his game.
The visit only made the story more interesting, since Minnesota is trying to keep top in-state talent close to home and Shateks profile suggests there could be real Big Ten upside if the development follows the right path. For the Gophers, it is the kind of addition that can matter well beyond one recruiting cycle, especially with a back who has been piling up yards and touchdowns at a pace that has made him one of the states most talked-about players. Minnesota Faces A Brutal Test In Bloomington With Little Margin
Minnesota heads to Bloomington facing a stiff assignment against Indiana, the defending national champions, in a game that feels like it could be decided by the slimmest of margins. Both offenses have been sputtering lately, which only raises the value of every possession, every red-zone trip and every mistake in a matchup that figures to lean more on execution than explosiveness.
For the Gophers, the biggest concern may be trying to slow down Indiana receiver Charlie Becker, a matchup that could tilt the evening if Minnesota cannot find an answer. Even with both teams searching for rhythm on offense, the recent trend points toward a tight game and, if the pattern holds, a late Indiana push could be enough to send Minnesota home with another hard-luck result.
