The Michigan Wolverines found their groove again with a solid 77-67 victory over the Minnesota Golden Gophers in Ann Arbor. This win was more than just another notch in the belt; it secured them a share of the league's regular-season title. But Coach Dusty May knows the journey isn't over yet.
"I'm fine with them celebrating," May shared with a grin. "Just as long as it's not too late and they're getting some rest.
We've got a quick turnaround, and while we're all about the process, we didn't hit our peak tonight. It's a lesson learned."
Up next, the Wolverines face a determined Illinois Fighting Illini squad. With February winding down, the Illini are hungry for a marquee victory and still have a slim shot at the league title. A win in one of Michigan's remaining games would clinch the title outright for the Wolverines.
May is well aware of the challenge ahead, especially given Michigan's nine-game losing streak against Illinois. "I'm proud of our guys for weathering the storms to get here," he said.
"But if you collapse in the last stretch of a marathon, it’s all for nothing. We’ve got to keep pushing and improving."
The Illini are coming off a split from their West Coast road trip and will return to the State Farm Center after a 12-day break. They've been formidable at home, boasting a 13-2 record, with losses only to Wisconsin and Nebraska.
This matchup is the first top-10 clash in Champaign since 2006, as the No. 10 Illini aim to extend their home streak against the No.
3 Wolverines. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m.
ET, and the excitement is palpable. It's one of only two remaining home games for Illinois this season, with the Oregon Ducks visiting next Tuesday and a season finale against the Maryland Terrapins.
Basketball fans, mark your calendars-this one's going to be a thriller.
