Jett Feeney Stuns Fans With Gophers Commitment After State Hockey Win

Moorhead's star quarterback Jett Feeney discreetly aligns with Gophers, prioritizing team success before revealing his college commitment.

In a move that underscores both talent and character, Moorhead quarterback Jett Feeney has committed to P.J. Fleck and the Minnesota Gophers. Feeney, who made his decision on March 5, chose to keep the news under wraps until after his high school hockey team clinched a state championship, showcasing a commendable sense of team spirit.

Feeney's announcement came on social media, joining fellow Moorhead standouts David Mack and Taye Rich in pledging to the Gophers. As a junior, Feeney led Moorhead to the Prep Bowl, amassing over 2,200 yards and 27 touchdowns, a testament to his prowess on the field.

Reflecting on the past season, Moorhead faced a tough defeat against Edina in the Prep Bowl, losing 42-35. However, the Spuds bounced back to claim the Class AA Boys State Hockey title with a thrilling 2-1 overtime win against Minnetonka, marking their second consecutive championship.

In the semifinals, Moorhead bested Edina 3-1, a matchup that likely saw familiar faces from their football encounters. Amidst these victories, Feeney quietly committed to the Gophers, a decision revealed by Moorhead Athletic Director Dean Haugo.

Haugo shared that Feeney visited the University of Minnesota last Thursday, just before Moorhead's hockey quarterfinal against Lakeville South. Feeney gave his verbal commitment to Fleck but chose to keep it private until the hockey season concluded, allowing his teammates to shine.

"Jett wanted the focus to remain on the hockey team," Haugo noted. "His actions speak volumes about his character and what he brings to the Gophers. When Jett's on the field, our team is outstanding."

While Feeney is set to play quarterback for Minnesota, the timeline for his impact on the field remains uncertain. Yet, his commitment is a significant addition to the Gophers' 2027 class, which also includes top-tier wide receiver David Mack and Taye Rich.

Feeney's journey as Moorhead's starting quarterback began in his freshman year. Last season, he threw for 2,221 yards, 27 touchdowns, and just two interceptions, alongside 241 rushing yards and five touchdowns. His stats highlight not only his skill but also his potential to make waves at the collegiate level.
