Head coach P.J. Fleck and the Minnesota Golden Gophers are celebrating a local victory, having secured commitments from three standout players from Moorhead High School, affectionately known as the Spuds. The latest addition to the team is quarterback Jett Feeney, joining his teammates, running back Taye Reich and wide receiver David Mack, in rowing the boat to Minnesota.
Feeney, standing at 6’1” and weighing 190 pounds, brings impressive credentials to the table. Despite not holding any Power 4 scholarship offers, his 247 Sports Composite Rating of .8750 speaks volumes about his potential.
As a three-year starter for Moorhead, Feeney has been nothing short of prolific. Last season, during the Spuds' inaugural year in the 6A division, he showcased his skills by throwing for 2,221 yards and 27 touchdowns.
This performance added to his already impressive career totals of 7,827 passing yards and 104 touchdowns. Feeney's strengths lie in his pocket presence and pinpoint accuracy, complemented by a high football IQ-a quality Minnesota's offensive coordinator, Greg Harbaugh Jr., highly values.
While Feeney possesses good size and athleticism, he may not have the speed to be classified as a true dual-threat quarterback. His biggest challenge at the collegiate level will be overcoming his lack of elite arm strength and refining his ability to read defenses and progress through his options. With his current skill set and a commitment to improvement, Feeney is poised to make a significant impact with the Golden Gophers.
