Pete Nance Just Made The Bucks Development Bet Even Bigger

Pete Nance prioritizes long-term growth over high-profile opportunities by recommitting to the Milwaukee Bucks on a two-way contract, despite interest from championship contenders.

Pete Nance had options after Milwaukee let him go, but he chose the Bucks anyway.

According to The Stein Line insiders Marc Stein and Jake Fischer, Nance drew two-way interest from both the Philadelphia 76ers and Los Angeles Lakers before deciding to return to Milwaukee on a two-way contract. The move wasn’t just about keeping the same deal in place. It was about choosing continuity over a fresh start elsewhere.

That’s no small decision when the alternatives are the 76ers and Lakers, two teams sitting higher than the Bucks in the NBA’s pecking order and loaded with stars, including LeBron James, Joel Embiid, Jalyen Brown, and Luka Doncic. Those are the kinds of destinations most players would at least strongly consider. Nance passed.

Instead, he opted to come back to Milwaukee, a team that cut him but still clearly has a place for him in its plans. It speaks to his comfort with the organization and his desire to keep building in the same environment, even after the roster around him has changed plenty since his mini breakout last season.

The next hurdle is simple enough to say and harder to do: earn a standard roster spot. For now, Nance remains on a two-way deal, and the path back to a full-time role will depend on staying ready.

That applies to all of Milwaukee’s two-way players. Through the Bucks’ first four games, none of them have cracked the rotation. Taylor Jenkins has shown a willingness to change his personnel when needed, but it doesn’t look like Nance, Cormac Ryan, or Kam Jones are set for major minutes anytime soon.

Still, the door is never truly closed in an 82-game season. Whether they’re watching from the bench or getting work with the Wisconsin Herd in the G League, the assignment is the same: be prepared. One injury, one illness, one unexpected absence, and Nance could suddenly become an important piece for Milwaukee.

For now, both sides seem aligned on the fit. The Bucks believe this is the right place for Nance to keep growing, and Nance clearly believes it too.

Bucks Bench May Have Found A Duo Worth Watching Closely

The Bucks have gotten an early glimpse of something interesting from the second unit, where Kasparas Jakucionis and Kel'el Ware have quickly shown they can bring more than just depth. Both former Heat players have been productive off the bench to start the season, with Jakucionis setting up offense as one of the leagues better reserve playmakers and Ware giving Milwaukee a scoring punch that has already stood out among second-unit contributors.

What makes the pairing worth watching is how naturally their games have fit together, especially in pick-and-roll action. The numbers are encouraging, but the larger question for the Bucks is whether that chemistry can hold up if they can clean up the fouls that have cut into their court time. If it does, Milwaukee may have found a bench combination that can matter beyond the opening stretch of the season. [Read more 🡒]

Nate Ament Is Getting A Bucks Chance Others Never Did

Nate Ament has already been handed something a lot of recent Bucks draft picks never really got: real minutes, real runway, and a chance to show what he can do before the league has made up its mind. Milwaukee coach Taylor Jenkins has leaned into that early, and Ament responded with a promising showing against the Indiana Pacers, giving the Bucks a look at a young player who seems to fit a more developmental approach than the one that has defined stretches of the roster in recent years.

For a team that has often watched homegrown talent come and go without much of a role in between, Aments opportunity stands out. The Bucks appear to be signaling a different kind of future, one that includes more patience with younger players and a willingness to let them grow on the floor instead of in the background. Ament is still early in that process, but the fact that he is getting this kind of chance at all says plenty about where Milwaukee may be headed. [Read more 🡒]

Bucks Already Have A Center Problem They Cant Ignore

The Bucks center spot is already becoming one of those early-season storylines that can linger if it is not addressed quickly. Milwaukee was reportedly on the receiving end of trade interest from the Warriors on Kristaps Porzingis, but the team showed no appetite to move in that direction, leaving the conversation to circle back to what the Bucks have in-house and how they want to shape the position moving forward.

Myles Turners slow start has only sharpened the focus on the issue, especially with his trade value being weighed against Milwaukees longer-term needs. Kel'el Ware has surfaced as a possible replacement in the discussion, but there has been no official move to change the roster, which means the Bucks are still stuck with a question that is getting harder to ignore.
