Nuggets Rumor Puts Denvers Backcourt Need Back In Focus

Denver Nuggets and Sacramento Kings emerge as top contenders for adding former Bucks guard Kevin Porter Jr. to their rosters, highlighting their interest in bolstering firepower amidst existing team challenges.

Kevin Porter Jr. may not be done with the NBA just yet.

After the Milwaukee Bucks waived the veteran guard before the 2026-27 season, the Denver Nuggets and Sacramento Kings have emerged as possible landing spots, according to NBA insiders Marc Stein and Jake Fischer on Monday. Both clubs are keeping an eye on their backcourt setups and could make a move if the situation lines up.

Milwaukee moved on from Porter after two seasons, with the Bucks citing a crowded guard rotation and the league’s 15-player roster limit. Denver had reportedly already made a trade offer for Porter before the release, but the Bucks turned it down.

Porter is still pushing for another shot in the league, even though he has drawn interest from teams overseas after his previous run with Greece’s PAOK. One hurdle: he is not eligible for a two-way contract, which could slow down the process and keep him waiting for the right opportunity.

The 26-year-old first entered the league as a 2019 first-round pick and has played for the Cleveland Cavaliers, Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Clippers and Bucks. In the 2025-26 season, he put up 17.4 points, 7.4 assists, 5.2 rebounds and 2.2 steals per game while shooting 46.5% from the field and 32.2% from beyond the arc. A right knee injury that needed surgery limited him to 38 games.

For Sacramento, Porter would give the team another option in the backcourt after Ben Simmons was lost for the season with a torn Achilles. He could back up Malik Monk and add scoring when Darius Acuff Jr. sits.

Denver’s interest makes sense too. The Nuggets could use another scorer alongside Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray, the only two players on the roster averaging more than 13.5 points per game in the early part of the season.

Bucks Bench May Have Found A Duo Worth Watching Closely

The Bucks have gotten an early glimpse of something interesting from the second unit, where Kasparas Jakucionis and Kel'el Ware have quickly shown they can bring more than just depth. Both former Heat players have been productive off the bench to start the season, with Jakucionis setting up offense as one of the leagues better reserve playmakers and Ware giving Milwaukee a scoring punch that has already stood out among second-unit contributors.

What makes the pairing worth watching is how naturally their games have fit together, especially in pick-and-roll action. The numbers are encouraging, but the larger question for the Bucks is whether that chemistry can hold up if they can clean up the fouls that have cut into their court time. If it does, Milwaukee may have found a bench combination that can matter beyond the opening stretch of the season. [Read more 🡒]

Nate Ament Is Getting A Bucks Chance Others Never Did

Nate Ament has already been handed something a lot of recent Bucks draft picks never really got: real minutes, real runway, and a chance to show what he can do before the league has made up its mind. Milwaukee coach Taylor Jenkins has leaned into that early, and Ament responded with a promising showing against the Indiana Pacers, giving the Bucks a look at a young player who seems to fit a more developmental approach than the one that has defined stretches of the roster in recent years.

For a team that has often watched homegrown talent come and go without much of a role in between, Aments opportunity stands out. The Bucks appear to be signaling a different kind of future, one that includes more patience with younger players and a willingness to let them grow on the floor instead of in the background. Ament is still early in that process, but the fact that he is getting this kind of chance at all says plenty about where Milwaukee may be headed. [Read more 🡒]

Bucks Already Have A Center Problem They Cant Ignore

The Bucks center spot is already becoming one of those early-season storylines that can linger if it is not addressed quickly. Milwaukee was reportedly on the receiving end of trade interest from the Warriors on Kristaps Porzingis, but the team showed no appetite to move in that direction, leaving the conversation to circle back to what the Bucks have in-house and how they want to shape the position moving forward.

Myles Turners slow start has only sharpened the focus on the issue, especially with his trade value being weighed against Milwaukees longer-term needs. Kel'el Ware has surfaced as a possible replacement in the discussion, but there has been no official move to change the roster, which means the Bucks are still stuck with a question that is getting harder to ignore.
