Giannis Antetokounmpo may have moved on from Milwaukee this summer, but the Bucks still clearly have a place in his future plans.
Speaking on AnesTea The Podcast, Antetokounmpo said he expects to come back to Milwaukee when his time in Miami is finished.
"When I finish this cycle with Miami, which I don't know when it will end, and if, I will definitely return to Milwaukee, and I don't know if they want me then."
That kind of line carries extra weight after watching how Damian Lillard’s story played out. Lillard pushed his way out of Portland after growing frustrated with mediocrity, landed in Milwaukee in 2023, and immediately became part of the kind of move that had people talking title contention.
But the fit never really clicked. Even before the personal issues that affected his play, he never seemed fully comfortable there.
The Bucks’ run with Lillard ended quickly. After just two seasons, he was cut and soon headed back to Portland once he became a free agent. The whole thing made one point hard to miss: sometimes the place you left still feels most like home.
Antetokounmpo saw all of that happen up close, and it may have planted a similar idea for the back half of his own career.
His return to Milwaukee would almost certainly come much later. Lillard’s stint was short, but Giannis’ time in Miami is expected to be longer, with a massive extension likely on the horizon in the coming months. Even so, once that deal runs out, the future gets a lot murkier.
If the years in Miami don’t go the way Antetokounmpo hopes, a reunion with Milwaukee could become a real possibility. Like Lillard, he would probably be welcomed back warmly - maybe even more warmly.
No. 34 back in Milwaukee before it eventually hangs in the rafters? That would not be a shock. The only real question is how long it takes to get there.
