The Milwaukee Bucks’ offseason shuffle has finally settled enough to put a number on every newcomer, and the latest wave of jersey choices tells its own little story. With the Giannis Antetokounmpo trade and a string of other roster moves reshaping the team, the Bucks have had plenty of digits to sort out. Now, after Caris LeVert’s delayed decision, everyone has a home.
Among the players coming over from the Heat trade, Kel'el Ware will wear No. 9 in Milwaukee. He had worn No. 7 in Miami, but that number would have meant challenging Kevin Porter Jr. for it. Instead, Ware moves on to 9, a jersey Bobby Portis made plenty of noise in during his time with the Bucks.
Tyler Herro’s switch came with a little more movement. He was originally lined up for No. 42, partly as a nod to former Buck Charlie Bell, but No. 11 opened up after the Gary Harris trade and Herro jumped at it. That number was worn by Brook Lopez, so Herro will be taking on one of the more recognizable Bucks jerseys in recent memory.
Jaime Jaquez Jr. is also making a change. He’ll wear No. 24, taking over Pat Connaughton’s old number.
With Herro moving into the 11 Jaquez wore in Miami, the forward is heading back to his college number instead. If he ends up in the sixth-man role many expect, the switch gives the move a little extra symmetry.
Kasparas Jakucionis lands on No. 25, which was the cleanest fit of the group. He wore 25 as a rookie with the Heat, and it had been open in Milwaukee since Serge Ibaka’s departure years ago. Jakucionis is one of the Bucks’ bigger unknowns heading into the season, so that number will be worth watching.
The draftees and LeVert have their numbers sorted as well. Brayden Burries is going with No. 0, even though plenty of people initially figured it might only be temporary until Gary Trent Jr. left. Burries wore No. 5 in college, but with Trent controversially returning, he’s staying put in 0 and taking over after Damian Lillard’s departure.
Nate Ament will wear No. 15.
His college number, No. 10, is retired in Milwaukee, so he had to look elsewhere. Ament is still very raw, but his Summer League showing gave the Bucks reason to believe there’s something worth building on there.
LeVert, meanwhile, settled on No. 12. He had been traded to Milwaukee earlier this month and took his time deciding, but he’s now set to wear Taurean Prince’s old number after being traded for him.
The Bucks’ new look now comes with a full set of jersey assignments, and that part of the offseason is finally in the books.
