Bucks Fans Finally Got A Glimpse Of What This Pick Could Be

Nate Ament's standout performance against the Hornets signals a promising turn in his Summer League journey with the Milwaukee Bucks.

The Bucks got the kind of Summer League night they’ve been waiting for from Nate Ament.

With Milwaukee resting Kasparas Jakučionis, Cormac Ryan and Brayden Burries against the Charlotte Hornets, the No. 13 pick finally had room to show why the Bucks wanted him in the first place. Ament responded with 23 points, six rebounds and two steals in 25 minutes, shooting 7-for-13 from the field.

That was a sharp jump from how his Summer League had opened. In his first three games, Ament averaged 7.0 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.0 assists while shooting 47.1% from the field and 37.5% from 3-point range.

Milwaukee entered the 2026 NBA Draft with two picks, taking Arizona guard Brayden Burries at No. 10 and later landing Ament at No. 13 after Giannis Antetokounmpo was traded to the Miami Heat. Burries has already been drawing plenty of attention for his Summer League play, but Ament’s showing against Charlotte gave the Bucks another encouraging sign.

At Tennessee, Ament averaged 16.7 points per game, though he shot 39.9% from the field and 33.3% from deep. The draft evaluation on him centered on patience: a 6-foot-10 forward with the fluidity of a guard, the ability to bring the ball up, create off the dribble and score through contact, but with questions about efficiency.

His defensive tools are part of the appeal too. Ament has a 6-foot-11.5 wingspan and the size to defend positions one through four, even if he still needs to fill out his frame.

Against the Hornets, the Bucks let him handle more of the offense, and that’s where he looked most comfortable. He brought the ball up, worked through traffic and attacked the basket with more force. He also hit a few catch-and-shoot 3s, even while finishing 2-for-7 from beyond the arc.

For Milwaukee, Ament’s breakout and Burries’ strong run are exactly the kind of Summer League signs the team wants to see as it keeps building toward the future.

Nuggets Could Lose A Breakout Young Forward In Summer Shuffle

After the Giannis Antetokounmpo trade sent the Bucks into a new era, Milwaukees front office is already digging into the forward market as it tries to reshape the roster around the assets it received from Miami. One avenue under consideration is a sign-and-trade path that would let the Bucks add another young, athletic piece without waiting for the market to settle completely, a strategy that fits the teams need to keep building around size and versatility.

The challenge is that this kind of move is rarely simple, especially with financial rules and roster math shaping what Milwaukee can actually pull off. The Bucks are weighing whether they can make the numbers work for a pair of intriguing forwards who are still in the middle of their next-contract decisions, and the outcome could tell a lot about how aggressively the team plans to spend the summer shuffle.
