Bucks Could Lose Kevin Porter Jr. As Sacramento Scrambles

With Ben Simmons sidelined for the season, the Sacramento Kings eye a trade opportunity that could resolve the Milwaukee Bucks' roster dilemma.

Ben Simmons’ injury has sent the Sacramento Kings back to the point guard market, and Milwaukee Bucks guard Kevin Porter Jr. has landed squarely on the radar.

Simmons, who had been on the verge of getting his NBA comeback rolling, suffered a torn Achilles and will miss the entire season. That leaves the Kings looking for another option at point guard, and according to NBA insider Jake Fischer, Porter is one of the names they’re considering.

The fit is easy to see. Porter is not a Simmons clone, but Sacramento could use him in a similar practical role: help the second unit, and step into the starting lineup if needed. With rookie floor general Darius Acuff Jr. on the roster, Porter could also ease some of the offensive burden there.

The money works, too. Porter is making just under $5.4 million this season, which gives Sacramento a clean, manageable path if it wants to move fast. With the season about to begin, the Kings appear to be looking for a quick and efficient fix rather than a complicated one.

Porter may not be the only option in the mix. Fischer and Marc Stein also reported that Walter Clayton of the Memphis Grizzlies is another guard the Kings are studying, and Memphis has its own roster crunch to sort through. The decision could come down later Monday afternoon.

Clayton showed flashes in his rookie year, but Porter looks like the more ready-made answer if Sacramento wants someone who can help right away. He brings more experience and just posted one of his best statistical seasons. And since Clayton will make just under what Porter earns this season, the choice doesn’t appear likely to hinge on salary.

For Milwaukee, Porter is a useful player, and if the Bucks weren’t squeezed by their own roster situation, they’d probably prefer to keep him. But that’s not where things stand. Unless someone unexpectedly steps in with interest in Kyle Kuzma or Caris LeVert, Porter is looking like the Bucks’ likely casualty, along with Pete Nance, as they work to clear the roster logjam.

Tyrese Haliburtons Fiery Bucks Exchange Looks Even More Personal Now

A preseason foul between Tyrese Haliburton and Ryan Rollins suddenly has a little more edge to it after the Oct. 15 meeting between the Pacers and Bucks, when the two guards were caught in a heated verbal exchange. The moment followed a hard foul, and Haliburton was hit with a technical after he allegedly directed profane language toward Rollins, giving the exchange a bite that stood out even in a game that was still early in the exhibition calendar.

The scene only drew more attention when a lip reader later broke down the interaction on social media, adding another layer to what had already looked like a tense run-in. Haliburton finished with 17 points and six assists, while Rollins posted eight points and five assists, and Milwaukee escaped with a 128-127 overtime win, though neither guard took part in the extra period. Bucks Backcourt Squeeze Could Finally Open A Door For Jakucionis

A possible Kevin Porter Jr. trade has put Milwaukees backcourt picture back under a microscope, and it could create the kind of opening the Bucks have been waiting to see from Kasparas Jakucionis. The 20-year-old point guard has already flashed enough to keep himself in the conversation, and if the rotation shifts, he would be one of the main candidates to step into the role of backup floor general.

Milwaukees willingness to explore moves around the edges of the roster suggests the guard depth chart is far from settled, especially with Caris LeVert and Jericho Sims also mentioned as being on the trade table. For Jakucionis, that uncertainty is part opportunity and part test, because a clearer path to minutes would also bring a bigger burden to prove he can handle them. [Read more 🡒]

Bucks Finally Made A Guard Rotation Decision Fans Saw Coming

The Bucks moved to trim a crowded backcourt ahead of the roster cutdown deadline, waiving guard Kevin Porter Jr. after two seasons with the team. The decision, first reported by ESPNs Shams Charania, came as Milwaukee reshaped its roster and continued sorting out minutes and roles in the wake of major changes, including the trade of Giannis Antetokounmpo and a wave of new additions.

For a team trying to settle on its guard rotation, Porters exit was the kind of move that had been looming for a while. Milwaukee had simply reached the point where there were more backcourt pieces than spots to give them, and the front office chose to clear the logjam rather than carry it into the season.
