William Contreras is still in the middle of a postseason run with the Milwaukee Brewers, but his long-term future in Milwaukee is already part of the conversation.
The catcher has been a central figure in the Brewers’ NLDS against the San Diego Padres, handling all three games so far while batting in the No. 3 and No. 4 spots. He’s also delivered in big spots.
In Game 1, Contreras launched a go-ahead solo home run that stood up as the difference in Milwaukee’s 3-2 win. Then in Game 3, he got the Brewers on the board with another homer in the fourth inning.
Now Milwaukee heads back out for Game 4 in San Diego on Wednesday with a 2-1 series lead and a chance to advance with one more win. Contreras is expected to catch a bullpen game.
Even with the postseason going on, Contreras recently spoke publicly about what comes next. During an interview on Master Flip, he discussed his free-agent timeline and said he has one year of arbitration left.
He added, “We’re close. We’ll see.
With Milwaukee, I don’t know. You never know.
We have Quero, a catcher prospect. This is a business, you never know where you’re going to land.
…”
The 28-year-old’s comments made it clear he isn’t certain what his future in Milwaukee will look like. He pointed to Jeferson Quero, who is soon to be 24, as part of the picture at catcher.
Contreras has been with the Brewers since late 2022, when he arrived in the blockbuster Sean Murphy trade. Since then, he’s been as durable as they come, appearing in at least 140 games in each season with the club.
His production this year was still strong, even if it dipped a bit from earlier seasons in Milwaukee. In 147 games, Contreras hit .270/.341/.417 with 18 home runs and 94 RBIs.
If he does reach the market, the New York Yankees were among the big-market teams mentioned as possible suitors. That decision is still down the road, though, and an extension with Milwaukee remains on the table.

Klay Thompson Shared The Giannis Moment Heat Fans Will Love
Klay Thompson is settling into Miami, but one of the memories he carried with him from his time away from the court came from an unlikely source. After returning from a long injury layoff, Thompson had a strong game and remembered Giannis Antetokounmpo, then on the other side, stopping to congratulate him in an emotional moment that stuck with him.
Thompson said he appreciated Antetokounmpos support during one of the toughest stretches of his career, the kind of gesture players do not forget. It is the sort of detail Heat fans will like hearing as Thompson begins this next chapter, especially since it says plenty about the respect he has earned around the league. [Read more 🡒]
Bucks May Be Drifting Toward A Reset Fans Never Expected
The Bucks enter the preseason in the familiar spot of being watched through the lens of their next big move, even as the conversation around the roster is as much about long-term direction as short-term winning. A roundtable from SIs NBA team puts Milwaukee under the microscope alongside the rest of the league, weighing what the current group might be able to become after an offseason defined more by evaluation than obvious upheaval.
For a franchise that has spent years trying to stay in contention, the broader debate is whether this is still a team built to chase immediate results or one edging toward a reset fans did not see coming. The discussion centers on current roster construction, possible trade paths and player development, leaving Milwaukee in a place where every preseason read feels like a clue to something bigger still taking shape. Bucks Showed One Promising Sign After An Ugly Start
The Bucks had little going their way early against Oklahoma City, with the Thunders starters rolling through the first half and shooting over 60% from the field while building a 24-point cushion. But once Milwaukee settled in, the game flipped into the kind of preseason test that can still reveal something useful, as the Bucks starters and bench both helped steady the effort and turn a lopsided night into a 128-126 win.
Kel'el Ware led the way with 18 points and 12 rebounds, while Brayden Burries added 16 points and five boards as Milwaukee found a better rhythm after the break. It was only preseason, but the comeback offered at least one encouraging sign for a Bucks group that looked rattled early and then showed enough response to make the finish meaningful. [Read more 🡒]
