The Philadelphia 76ers are rolling the dice on upside - and they might just come up big.
Late Tuesday, the team agreed to a two-way deal with MarJon Beauchamp, a former first-round pick with undeniable talent who’s still just 25 years old. It’s a low-risk, high-upside move that fits right into the Sixers’ recent trend of savvy two-way signings.
Beauchamp’s NBA journey began in Milwaukee, where he showed flashes of promise as a versatile wing with scoring instincts. But after a coaching change brought Doc Rivers into the fold, Beauchamp saw his minutes dry up.
He was essentially pushed out of the rotation before he really had a chance to find his rhythm. Since then, he’s been grinding in the G League with the Delaware Blue Coats - and he’s been turning heads.
What makes this signing particularly interesting is that Beauchamp hasn’t just been showing out in the G League. He also made a strong impression playing for Team USA during World Cup Qualifiers, where he looked like the best player on the floor in stretches.
That’s no small feat, even in a limited sample size. His time away from Delaware to suit up for the national team might’ve cut into his G League reps, but when he has played, he’s been consistently impactful.
At 6-foot-6 with a solid frame and a scorer’s mentality, Beauchamp adds depth to a Sixers roster that already boasts a strong group of guards and wings. But in today’s NBA, you can never have too many versatile players who can shoot, create, and defend multiple positions. That’s especially true for a team with postseason aspirations - depth on the wing becomes critical when the games start to slow down and matchups become everything.
This move doesn’t cost Philadelphia much in terms of roster flexibility or cap space. But if Beauchamp continues trending upward - and finally gets a real opportunity to show what he can do - the reward could be significant.
He’s still young, still developing, and still hungry. Sometimes, all a player like that needs is the right situation.
The Sixers have already had success with their two-way signings this season, and Beauchamp could be the next name to add to that list. Keep an eye on him - there’s a real chance this could be more than just a depth move.
