William Contreras Is Giving Brewers Fans The October Moment They Craved

As the Brewers ride a historic lead into Los Angeles, key performances and pivotal matchups promise even more drama in the NLCS.

The Brewers have done something they had never done before in a seven-game series: grab a 2-0 lead. Now the NLCS shifts to Los Angeles on Wednesday, with Milwaukee carrying all the momentum after another night of timely hitting.

William Contreras was right in the middle of it. The Brewers catcher kept answering every Cleveland push, opening by tying the game with an RBI single in the first inning, then evening things up again in the fifth with a solo shot off Kris Bubic.

He wasn’t finished. In the next inning, Contreras delivered again with another RBI single to put Milwaukee ahead for good.

It was his second three-hit performance of this postseason.

“He’s the fire of our team,” Christian Yelich said (h/t Tyler Kepner of The Athletic). “He likes the moments, likes the big moments. We’ve got all the confidence in the world in him, whether that’s at the plate or behind it.”

That kind of production has made Contreras the spark for a Brewers offense that keeps coming.

On the other side, Cleveland has gotten its own lift from the catching spot. Patrick Bailey doesn’t bring Contreras’ offensive résumé, but he has been a real factor in October.

He launched a solo homer off Tyler Wells in the seventh inning of Game 1 against the Rays, and that swing helped start a rally that carried the Guardians to a comeback win. Cleveland added two runs in the eighth and three more in the ninth to steal the opener at Tropicana Field.

Bailey is hitting .368 with two homers in the postseason. That’s a major step forward for a backstop who posted a .607 OPS in the regular season.

The next matchup brings Freddy Peralta against Parker Messick. Tampa Bay will turn to Peralta on Tuesday in an attempt to square the series. He held the Yankees to one earned run over 4 2/3 innings in Game 2 of the ALDS, and he was at his sharpest late in the regular season, going 4-0 with a 0.96 ERA in September and earning AL Pitching of the Month honors.

Cleveland’s counter is Messick, a rookie who has already flashed swing-and-miss stuff in the playoffs. He piled up 11 strikeouts across his two ALDS outings, but he also walked six and couldn’t make it out of the third inning in Game 4 against the White Sox.

Dodgers Face A Brutal Game 4 Pitching Reality With Season On The Line

With the National League Championship Series moving to Game 4 after a loss, the Dodgers are staring at a pitching plan with very little wiggle room. Manager Dave Roberts said Tarik Skubal, Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Justin Wrobleski are off limits for the next game, a setup that leaves Los Angeles trying to navigate one of the most difficult spots a club can face this time of year.

Roberts indicated Skubal is lined up to start Game 5 and Yamamoto would follow in Game 6 if the series continues, but the immediate concern is far more basic: the Dodgers have to keep the season alive long enough for those options to matter. Teams that fall behind 3-0 in a best-of-seven postseason series rarely find a way back, which is why the next night carries so much weight. [Read more 🡒]

Brewers Have Dodgers On The Brink Of Something Milwaukee Has Waited 44 Years For

Milwaukee kept turning the screws on the Dodgers in Game 3 of the National League Championship Series, winning 6-2 on Monday night and moving within one victory of a breakthrough the franchise has been chasing for 44 years. The Brewers are now in control of the best-of-seven series, and the pressure keeps shifting squarely onto a Los Angeles club that suddenly needs a perfect response just to extend its season.

Jackson Chourio set the tone immediately with a first-pitch home run, and Garrett Mitchell later added another blast as Milwaukee kept finding timely offense. The nights biggest swing came when Jake Bauers delivered after a long battle with Blake Snell, turning a tight game into a command performance and leaving the Brewers on the doorstep of their first World Series trip in decades. Andrew Vaughns Cooper Pratt Comment Says A Lot About These Brewers

As the Brewers get ready for Game 3 of the 2026 National League Championship Series against the Dodgers, one of the more revealing parts of their rise has been the way Cooper Pratt has fit in. The rookie shortstop has become a meaningful piece of Milwaukees lineup and a steady presence around the club, enough to draw praise from first baseman Andrew Vaughn for the way Pratt has handled the jump to the majors.

Vaughns comments about Pratts growth and maturity spoke to more than just one players development. They also hinted at the tone inside a Brewers clubhouse that has leaned on young contributors to get this far, with Pratts emergence becoming part of the teams identity as the series shifts back onto the field.
