This decision came after much debate within the Brewers’ camp, as they chose not to protect him due to a crowded roster and Smith’s past injuries. Fast forward 16 months, and Smith is now a cornerstone of the White Sox rotation, boasting a fastball that regularly hits 98 mph.
Smith's ascent is remarkable, especially considering his earlier struggles. After going undrafted post-college due to injuries, he found his stride with the White Sox, becoming an All-Star in 2025. “It’s been a long journey from being 18 to being 25,” Smith reflected, grateful for the chance to prove himself. His former Wake Forest teammate and current White Sox assistant pitching coach, Bobby Hearn, praised Smith’s work ethic and passion, noting the significance of this moment.

He burst onto the scene with 103 mph fastballs and an early All-Star selection, only to face challenges that saw him moved to the bullpen. Misiorowski is focused on building a steadier campaign this year. “The postseason going how it went made it a lot easier to swallow how the regular season ended,” he admitted, using that experience as motivation for the offseason.
