Royals Stun Brewers With Late Comeback on Split-Squad Day

The Milwaukee Brewers struggled in split-squad action, facing setbacks against both the Royals and the White Sox, as they continue their search for form in Cactus League play.

Game Recap: Royals 7, Brewers 3

The Brewers started strong with a 1-0 lead through six innings, but the Royals rallied late, scoring one in the seventh, two in the eighth, and four in the ninth at American Family Fields of Phoenix.

Milwaukee cycled through eleven pitchers, showcasing a mix of talent. Robert Gasser, DL Hall, and Tate Kuehner each delivered scoreless innings, setting a solid foundation before the bullpen of minor-leaguers took over.

William Contreras was the offensive spark for Milwaukee, driving in their sole run with a powerful double that nearly cleared the wall.

Contreras also made an impact defensively, successfully challenging a pitch call that set the tone for the day. "I honestly didn't see him challenge it, but I'm glad he did," Gasser noted. "It was a relief and helped us just focus on playing baseball."

Jett Williams continued to impress with his versatility, starting at shortstop. Manager Pat Murphy plans to test Williams in center field as well, highlighting his adaptability.

Meanwhile, at Camelback Ranch, the Brewers faced the Chicago White Sox, falling 5-2. This left Milwaukee 0-3 in Cactus League play after two days.

Logan Henderson offered a bright spot with a scoreless inning. However, prospect Bryce Meccage struggled, giving up three runs on three hits in just ⅔ of an inning.

Akil Baddoo and Andrew Vaughn provided the offensive highlights, with Baddoo homering and Vaughn collecting two hits.

Quotable Moment

Tyler Black, reflecting on Team USA's 2-1 overtime win against Team Canada in the Winter Olympics, humorously admitted, "I got nothing." As a Toronto native and avid hockey fan, Black took some ribbing from his American teammates but handled it with good humor.

Prospect Watch

Right-hander Bishop Letson, ranked as Milwaukee's No. 6 prospect, made a strong Cactus League debut. He delivered a flawless fifth inning against Kansas City, striking out two and finishing with a blazing 97.7-mph fastball.

Manager Pat Murphy praised Letson, saying, "This isn't just about stuff; it's about competing at the big-league level."

Brock Wilken, battling a right shoulder impingement, showcased his power with a two-run homer in the ninth. Murphy commented, "He's definitely a force," noting Wilken's ability to hit the ball hard, even if not facing major league pitching.
