Pat Murphy Shared A Personal Moment Brewers Fans Will Love

After a hard-fought NLDS battle where the Brewers triumphed over the Padres, manager Pat Murphy had just one word for his son Kai, blending family ties with professional rivalry.

Pat Murphy’s postgame exchange with his son gave Milwaukee’s NLDS clincher an unmistakably personal twist.

After the Brewers knocked out the San Diego Padres with a 3-1 win in Game 4 on Wednesday night, Murphy met his son, Kai, on the Petco Park field. Kai, 26, is an outfielder in San Diego’s minor-league system, and the scene came with a message from father to son that the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel’s Curt Hogg captured on X, formerly Twitter, early Thursday: “Love you.”

Hogg also shared a photo of the two smiling after the Brewers finished off the series. The family moment landed on the same field where Milwaukee secured its fourth NLCS appearance and ended San Diego’s season.

Kai signed with the Padres as an undrafted free agent in 2022 after playing at Oregon State and Arizona State, and he has worked his way through the organization’s minor-league system.

Murphy, who has managed the Brewers since 2024, has won National League Manager of the Year honors in both 2024 and 2025.

Milwaukee’s victory was built on a few huge swings and a massive defensive play. Garrett Mitchell tripled and scored the go-ahead run in the fifth inning, then later robbed Manny Machado of a game-tying homer in the eighth. Jackson Chourio added an RBI single to bring Mitchell home.

The win snapped Milwaukee’s 12-game postseason road losing streak and pushed the Brewers into the NLCS for a second straight year. The club finished the 2026 regular season at 103-59, best in MLB, and now moves on to face the Los Angeles Dodgers in a rematch of the 2025 NLCS.

Baseball Americas 2026 MLB Draft report card gave the Brewers class an early spotlight, and it sounds like the front office came away with more than just a few intriguing names. Brewers Ended San Diegos Season With A Play Fans Will Relive

The Brewers closed out San Diegos season in Game 4 of the National League Division Series, and the kind of tight, nerve-wracking game that tends to linger well beyond October. Fernando Tatis Jr. supplied a solo home run to keep the Padres in it, but Milwaukee answered with the sort of defense that can swing a postseason series, highlighted by Garrett Mitchells critical play in the field.

For the Padres, the loss only sharpens the questions already hanging over the roster. Several of the clubs key players are getting older, a handful of pitchers are headed toward free agency, and an impending lockout could complicate whatever comes next. The result is a familiar kind of winter uncertainty, with a painful finish and a difficult path back to this stage. [Read more 🡒]

Garrett Mitchell turned one of the biggest moments of the Brewers season into an instant memory in Game 4 of the National League Division Series, robbing Manny Machado of a potential game-tying two-run homer and helping preserve Milwaukees 3-1 lead. It was the kind of play that can tilt a postseason game, and for a Brewers club trying to keep its season alive, Mitchells catch landed right in the middle of the pressure.

Milwaukee finished the job in the ninth inning and closed out the Padres, sending the Brewers on to the National League Championship Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
