Freddy Peralta Linked to Major 2026 Move by New York Mets

Freddy Peralta's anticipated Mets debut as their Opening Day starter kicks off a new chapter after a blockbuster trade with the Brewers.

The Milwaukee Brewers shook things up this off-season with a trio of trades, the most notable being the move of two-time All-Star ace Freddy Peralta to the New York Mets. Joining Peralta in the Big Apple is Tobias Myers, another key piece in the deal.

In exchange, the Brewers bolstered their farm system with two of the Mets’ top-five prospects. Right-handed pitcher Brandon Sproat and infielder Jett Williams are now among Milwaukee's top six prospects, with Sproat taking the crown as their highest-ranked pitching prospect.

Peralta, entering the final year of his contract, is coming off a career-best season in 2025. If he thrives under the New York spotlight, he could soon be among the highest-paid pitchers in baseball.

Freddy Peralta, the former Milwaukee Brewers All-Star, is set to start on Opening Day for the New York Mets. Though he has yet to make his Spring Training debut for the Mets, they’ve already tapped him as their Opening Day starter for 2026.

Last season, Peralta dazzled with a 17-6 record, a 2.70 ERA, and a 1.08 WHIP, racking up 204 strikeouts over 176.1 innings. He’s no stranger to Opening Day pressure, having started for the Brewers in both 2024 and 2025.

His first Opening Day start in 2024 was against the Mets, where he delivered six innings of one-run ball with eight strikeouts. In the following year, despite a rough opening series against the Yankees, Peralta shone on Opening Day with five solid innings, allowing just four hits, two runs, and striking out eight.

This year, Peralta takes the mound for New York against the Pittsburgh Pirates, facing off against Paul Skenes. It's a new chapter for Peralta, and all eyes will be on how he handles his debut in the Mets' blue and orange.
