Former Milwaukee Brewers infielder Caleb Durbin is making his presence felt in Boston, and Thursday night gave the Red Sox another reminder of why he’s become such a timely bat.
Durbin delivered the biggest swing of the night at Fenway Park, lining a walk-off RBI single in the 13th inning to lift Boston past the White Sox, 12-11, in the series finale. The hit sent the Red Sox to their eighth straight win.
It was a fitting finish to a wild game that kept swinging back and forth. Chicago jumped out to a 4-0 lead, but Boston kept answering. The White Sox held the advantage at different points, yet the Red Sox kept clawing back until Durbin finally ended it.
Durbin finished 3-for-6 with two runs scored, a run scored and a walk, while striking out twice. For the 26-year-old, it was another night in which he came through when the pressure was highest. He also had a big moment at the plate in July during Boston’s remarkable winning streak.
Durbin made his big-league debut last season with Milwaukee before being traded to the Red Sox in February along with Andruw Monasterio, Anthony Seigler and future considerations for Shane Drohan, David Hamilton and Kyle Harrison.
In his lone season with the Brewers, Durbin hit .256/.334/.387 with 11 home runs and 53 RBIs in 136 games. This year, he’s batting .251/.322/.408 with 11 home runs and 51 RBIs through 107 games.
