The Milwaukee Brewers are gearing up for a pivotal 2026 season, even after parting ways with some key players in offseason trades. Among these moves, Caleb Durbin headed to the Boston Red Sox, and most notably, ace Freddy Peralta was dealt to the New York Mets. While losing Peralta is significant, the Brewers have a promising new addition in right-handed pitcher Brandon Sproat, who came over in the trade.
Brewers president of baseball operations Matt Arnold expressed the team's excitement about Sproat's arrival, highlighting his seamless integration into the roster. Arnold described Sproat as not only talented but also a great presence in the clubhouse, praising his athleticism and the positive feedback from the coaching staff.
The decision to trade Peralta marked a major shift for the Brewers, as they let go of their top ace in the final year of his contract. Sproat, a 25-year-old pitching prospect, was the centerpiece of the return from the Mets.
Sproat's early days with the Brewers have been promising. In spring training, through three starts, he's posted a 5.00 ERA with 10 strikeouts over 9.0 innings.
His 2025 regular season saw him with a 4.79 ERA in four starts across 20.2 innings. While these numbers might not jump off the page, Sproat's potential is evident.
Back in 2024, during his first stint in the minors, Sproat recorded a 3.40 ERA across 24 games (23 starts), quickly climbing the ranks from High-A to Double-A, and eventually Triple-A. In 2025, before his MLB debut, he made 25 starts in 26 games at Triple-A, achieving a 4.24 ERA with an 8-6 record and 113 strikeouts.
Sproat still has room to grow, but the Brewers are optimistic about his future. His early signs in Milwaukee are encouraging, and the team believes he will play a crucial role in their plans for 2026 and beyond.
