Milwaukee Brewers Set Sights on Spring as Offseason Winds Down
The snow might be piling up in Wisconsin, but for Brewers fans, there’s finally a reason to look past the frost on the windows. After a tough end to the Packers’ season and a frustrating stretch for the Bucks, the Milwaukee Brewers are offering a welcome reminder: baseball is coming, and it’s coming soon.
It’s been a relatively quiet offseason for the Brewers so far. Outside of Brandon Woodruff accepting the qualifying offer and a trade that sent Nick Mears and Isaac Collins to the Kansas City Royals in exchange for lefty Ángel Zerpa, the front office has played things close to the vest. But that silence won’t last much longer - because Spring Training is just around the corner.
Pitchers and Catchers Report February 12, Full Squad on February 17
MLB dropped some welcome news this week by releasing the official Spring Training reporting dates for all 30 teams. For the Brewers, pitchers and catchers are set to report on February 12, with the full squad workout scheduled for February 17 at American Family Fields of Phoenix in Maryvale.
That means we’re exactly four weeks away from seeing Milwaukee’s arms back on the mound, gearing up for the 2026 campaign. And while the calendar says it’s still the dead of winter, the countdown to baseball has officially begun.
Freddy Peralta’s Future Looms Large
There’s still some business to take care of before the Brewers head to Arizona - and it starts with Freddy Peralta. The right-hander has been at the center of trade buzz throughout the offseason, and if Milwaukee is going to make a move, history suggests it’ll happen before pitchers and catchers report.
Just look at how the Brewers handled things with Corbin Burnes, who was dealt to the Orioles on February 1, 2024 - a full 11 days before Spring Training began. Last year, they moved Devin Williams even earlier, shipping him out in mid-December. So if Peralta is on the block, the clock is ticking.
While nothing is set in stone, the chatter around Peralta has picked up in recent weeks. Multiple insiders have pointed to increased momentum behind a potential deal, and if Milwaukee is indeed leaning toward a retool, Peralta could be the next big name on the move.
Catching Depth Still a Question Mark
On the other side of the battery, the Brewers are likely to make at least one more move before February 12 - specifically, behind the plate. Right now, William Contreras and Jeferson Quero are the only catchers on the 40-man roster, and while Quero is a top prospect, the team still has to decide if he’s ready to serve as Contreras’ backup at the big-league level.
To hedge that bet, Milwaukee has already extended a non-roster invite to minor leaguer Darrien Miller for big league camp. He’s not related to former Brewers catcher and Wisconsin native Damien Miller, despite the near-identical name, but he could be part of the depth picture this spring.
Still, expect the Brewers to bring in another catcher - likely on a minor league deal with a Spring Training invite - in the coming weeks. Whether it’s a veteran presence to mentor Quero or simply a depth piece for camp, it’s a move that makes sense given the current roster construction.
Spring Is Coming - and So Is Baseball
It might not feel like it in Wisconsin right now, but baseball is closer than it seems. In just a few weeks, Aaron Ashby will be throwing bullpens in the desert sun, and the Brewers will be laying the groundwork for what they hope is a bounce-back year.
Yes, there are still questions to answer - from potential trades to roster depth - but the important thing is this: baseball is on the horizon. And after a long winter for Wisconsin sports fans, that’s something worth getting excited about.
So go ahead and start that countdown. Opening Day will be here before you know it.
