Brewers Need More From Brice Turang With Game 4 Pressure Rising

Brice Turang's performance at the plate could be the key factor for the Brewers as they seek to secure their place in the National League Championship Series in a crucial Game 4 against the Padres.

Milwaukee’s path to the NLDS finish line got a lot less comfortable on Tuesday night, and Brice Turang sits right in the middle of the conversation heading into Game 4.

The Brewers had already taken Games 1 and 2 and were trying to close out the San Diego Padres in Game 3. Instead, San Diego held on for a 4-3 win and pushed the series deeper, leaving Milwaukee with a one-game edge and another trip to San Diego still to come.

Win Wednesday, and the Brewers move on. Lose, and it’s back to Milwaukee for a winner-take-all Game 5.

That backdrop matters even more because the Padres are expected to have both Mason Miller and Adrian Morejon available for Game 4, according to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale. San Diego won Tuesday without either of its top relief arms, so the Brewers may be staring at an even tougher finish than the one they just missed.

Milwaukee’s biggest issue, though, is that Turang hasn’t looked like the same force he was during the regular season. Through three games, he is just 1-for-11 with two walks and three strikeouts. For a Brewers offense that needs every bit of juice it can find, that’s a problem.

The team clearly noticed. On Tuesday, Milwaukee moved Turang into the cleanup spot, a role he had filled only twice in his career before Game 3. That’s the kind of lineup shakeup that tells you the club is searching for a spark.

And there’s no mystery about what Turang can bring when he’s rolling. He blasted 21 home runs, drove in 100 runs and hit 37 doubles in the regular season, while finishing with 7.3 wins above replacement to lead the club.

Jacob Misiorowski was next at 6.5. When Turang is right, Milwaukee’s lineup looks different - deeper, more dangerous, harder to navigate.

The Brewers also have the road numbers working against them. They’ve lost 12 straight road playoff games, with one more coming Wednesday night. That only raises the pressure on a lineup that could use a lift from one of its most important bats.

There is at least a little history to lean on. Turang is 1-for-4 in his career against Walker Buehler, with a triple, an RBI and a walk. Buehler will start for San Diego in Game 4 as the Padres try to force the series back to Milwaukee.

For the Brewers, the formula is pretty simple now: get Turang going, and the offense has a chance to breathe. Leave him quiet, and this series gets a lot more precarious.

William Contreras Just Put Brewers Fans On Notice About His Future

William Contreras has spent the NLDS reminding everyone why he has become such an important piece of the Brewers lineup, delivering big home runs in Games 1 and 3 against the Padres while continuing the steady work that has made him a fixture in Milwaukee since arriving in 2022. Durability has been part of the appeal, too, with Contreras topping 140 games in each season he has worn a Brewers uniform, giving the club a middle-of-the-order bat it can trust through the grind of a long year.

Now the attention shifts beyond October, because Contreras has already opened the door to a bigger question about what comes next. In a recent interview, he said he is scheduled to be a free agent after the 2027 season unless he signs an extension, and he acknowledged some uncertainty about whether his future will remain in Milwaukee. For a Brewers team that values stability and impact performers, that kind of long-term uncertainty is the sort of storyline that can linger well past the final out of this playoff run. [Read more 🡒]

Brewers Just Got A Game 3 Opening Padres Fans Hate

The Padres are making an unexpected lineup change for Game 3 of the NLDS, going into Milwaukee without Gavin Sheets in the starting nine because of a stiff neck. Sheets is still available off the bench, but Samad Taylor moves into the batting order as San Diego tries to extend its season against a Brewers club that has already put the pressure squarely on the visitors.

Nick Pivetta gets the ball for San Diego in a must-win game, his second postseason start since returning from injury. For Milwaukee, the tweak adds another layer to a night already shaped by urgency, with the Brewers needing only to stay steady against a Padres team that has had to adjust on the fly just to keep its lineup intact. Pat Murphy's Game 4 Pitching Choice Could Decide The Brewers' Season

With their season hanging by a thread, the Brewers are already looking ahead to Game 4 of the National League Division Series, where Pat Murphy will have to make one of the biggest pitching decisions of the year. Murphy has not announced a starter, but the discussion is centered on Robert Gasser and Chad Patrick, two arms who could be asked to help keep Milwaukee alive after losses in the first three games.

Gasser has been trending in the right direction lately, while Patrick has generally been effective aside from one rough outing late in the season. Kyle Harrison is also part of the conversation, though his role is less clear after recent performance left more questions than answers. For a Brewers team trying to extend its October run, the choice could shape not just Game 4, but the direction of the entire series. [Read more 🡒]
