Brewers' Ex-Third Baseman Joins Diamondbacks in Unexpected Move

Luis Uras, once a staple of the Brewers' infield, eyes a comeback with the Diamondbacks, bringing potential depth and versatility to their roster.

Spring training is wrapping up, and the Milwaukee Brewers are gearing up for Opening Day, just around the corner. Yet, the free agent market is still buzzing with activity.

Zack Littell, a pitcher many hoped would join the Brewers, has signed a one-year, $7 million contract with the Washington Nationals. Littell is set to become a key piece in the Nationals' rebuilding rotation, whether he starts on Opening Day or joins shortly after.

Meanwhile, another familiar name is making moves. Former Brewers infielder Luis Urías has inked a minor league deal with the Arizona Diamondbacks, as confirmed by the Reno Aces on social media.

Urías, who was a staple in the Brewers' infield from 2020 to 2022, had a brief return to the team in 2025. Despite not making the major league roster in his second stint, he posted a respectable .731 OPS with the Nashville Sounds.

The Diamondbacks' signing of Urías could be a sneaky good move. Although his recent numbers show a dip-an 84 OPS+ and 0.7 bWAR over 189 games since 2023-Urías is only 28 and has a solid track record. Arizona's decision to bring him on a minor league contract minimizes their risk while offering potential upside if he regains form.

In the early months of 2025, Urías seemed to have rediscovered his groove with the Athletics, posting a .740 OPS and hitting six homers as their primary second baseman. However, his performance waned, leading to his release in August and eventual return to Milwaukee. While a reunion with the Brewers this offseason wasn't in the cards, they did show interest in his brother, Ramón Urías, before opting for Luis Rengifo to bolster their infield.

For Urías, breaking into the Diamondbacks' lineup won't be easy. With a talented infield that includes Nolan Arenado, Ketel Marte, Geraldo Perdomo, and Jordan Lawlar, competition is fierce. However, Urías' ability to play multiple positions could earn him a utility role in the big leagues sometime this season.
