The Milwaukee Brewers are closing in on a bullpen boost, and it comes with two names that could matter a lot in the final stretch.
Abner Uribe and JoJo Romero are both set to begin minor league rehab assignments in High-A on Tuesday, according to the official Wisconsin Timber Rattlers X account. For a Brewers relief group that already owns the third-best bullpen ERA in baseball at 3.33, getting those two back into the mix would only make an already strong unit tougher to navigate.
Uribe has been out since Aug. 9, but when he’s been available this season, he’s been a force. The 26-year-old right-hander has worked in 49 games for Milwaukee and owns a 2.05 ERA with 48 strikeouts and 18 walks across 48 1/3 innings.
Romero still hasn’t thrown a pitch for the Brewers since arriving from the St. Louis Cardinals ahead of the 2026 trade deadline, because he’s been on the Injured List after an appendectomy.
Even so, the left-hander brings a track record that makes this rehab assignment worth watching. Before the trade, he posted a 3.35 ERA in 44 appearances for St.
Louis, with a 43-to-16 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 43 innings.
There’s also a higher ceiling version of Romero the Brewers are hoping to see again. In 2025, he put up a 2.07 ERA in 65 appearances for the Cardinals, along with 55 strikeouts and 29 walks in 61 innings. He was even sharper late in the year, going from Aug. 18 through the end of the season with a 0.98 ERA in 17 outings.
Milwaukee has managed without both arms so far, but their returns could give the bullpen another gear - especially with the unit already being elite and a little thin on lefties.
