Xavier Muhammad Books Official Visit to Michigan: What's Drawing Him In?

Top defensive line prospect Xavier Muhammad primes for a pivotal visit to Michigan, drawn by both its athletic and academic allure.

Michigan's new defensive tackles coach, Larry Black, wasted no time making an impact on the recruiting front. Since joining the Wolverines, Black has been leveraging his existing connections to bolster the team's future lineup. One of his key targets is South Houston's four-star defensive lineman, Xavier Muhammad.

Standing at an impressive 6-foot-4 and 225 pounds, Muhammad recently received a scholarship offer from Michigan, reigniting his interest in the program. "Coach Black was recruiting me at Vanderbilt," Muhammad shared, "and when he moved to Michigan, he reached out to let me know I was still his guy. It feels like family with him, and I'm excited to explore what Michigan has to offer."

Muhammad's enthusiasm for Michigan is evident. He appreciates the school's blend of high academic standards and elite athletic programs, emphasizing the importance of player development-a hallmark of Michigan's track record of producing NFL talent.

The Texas native is set to visit the Michigan campus on May 29th. "I'm eager to learn more about the school and experience the environment," Muhammad said. "Being from Texas, I'm curious about the weather, culture, and community up there."

In addition to Michigan, Muhammad has lined up visits to other top programs, including Stanford on May 22nd, Miami on June 5th, and TCU on June 11th. As of now, the 247Sports Crystal Ball has yet to predict where he might land.

Ranked as the No. 91 overall prospect in the 2027 class, Muhammad is also the No. 10 defensive lineman nationally and the No. 12 player in Texas, according to 247Sports Composite rankings. His upcoming visits will be pivotal as he considers where to continue his football journey.
