Michigan Wolverines Eye New QB After Bourque Decommitment Stirs Roster Strategy

As Michigan Wolverines navigate the aftermath of Peter Bourque's decommitment, they cast a wide net to secure top quarterback prospects for the 2027 class.

Michigan Wolverines Eyeing Future QB Prospects

The Michigan Wolverines are in an exciting position with Bryce Underwood, one of the highest-ranked recruits on their roster. But the hunt for top-tier quarterbacks never stops. With a recent decommitment, the Wolverines are setting their sights on the 2027 class to ensure a strong future.

Searching for the Next Quarterback

The Wolverines are back in the market for a quarterback after Peter Bourque reopened his recruitment. Two four-star prospects are catching Michigan's attention.

First up is Dane Weber, ranked No. 360 overall. Offered by Michigan recently, Weber has shown interest, thanks in part to his familiarity with the new coaching staff.

Utah was his first DI offer, and Oregon is also in the mix for him.

Kamden Lopati is another name to watch. Committed to Illinois since July, Lopati is ranked No. 149 overall.

Despite his commitment, Michigan remains on his radar, largely due to head coach Kyle Whittingham's influence. Lopati appreciates Whittingham’s passion and genuine care for players.

Five-Star Prospect Eyes Michigan

Looking ahead to 2028, Donald Tabron II, a five-star talent from Detroit’s Cass Tech, is generating buzz. Ranked No. 28 nationally, Tabron is intrigued by Michigan's potential under new head coach Kyle Whittingham. With the offense struggling in recent years, recruits like Tabron are eager to see the program's evolution.

Tabron has already experienced the electric atmosphere of the Big House, particularly during the Ohio State game. The energy and environment left a lasting impression, fueling his interest in staying close to home.

Running Back Target: TJ Lewis

Michigan’s running backs coach, Tony Alford, has set his sights on TJ Lewis for the 2027 class. Lewis, who hails from Bolingbrook, Illinois, is expected to visit Michigan soon.

Though not yet ranked, Lewis is drawing attention from several schools, including Penn State and Wisconsin. Standing at 6-foot, 215 pounds, Lewis has Michigan as his dream destination, and fans should keep an eye on his potential commitment.

With a blend of strategic recruiting and promising prospects, Michigan is laying the groundwork for continued success. The future looks bright in Ann Arbor as the Wolverines aim to bolster their roster with top talent.
