Michigan’s 2028 recruiting board already has the kind of names that can change a class, and the Wolverines are still swinging at least one of the biggest ones.
The headliner is Georgia commit Jayden Wade, the 6-foot-3, 190-pound quarterback from IMG Academy who sits ninth overall in the 2028 class in the 247 Sports composite rankings. Wade has been pledged to the Bulldogs since November, and the expectation is still that he winds up signing with Georgia. But according to Brice Marich of The Michigan Insider, Michigan hasn’t backed off.
A recent post from Marich suggested the Wolverines are still in the mix for the No. 2 overall prospect in the class, and the key next step is obvious: get Wade to Ann Arbor. Until that happens, it’s tough to treat a flip as truly live. If Michigan is going to make this serious, Wade likely needs multiple trips to campus, not just one.
That part matters because Wade’s visit list is already pretty exclusive. Georgia, Alabama, USC, and Texas are the only schools that have hosted him so far. If Michigan gets added to that group, it would be a meaningful sign that the Wolverines have a real opening.
Wade isn’t the only 2028 name Michigan is chasing, either.
Four-star linebacker Cale Britt, ranked No. 320 overall in the class by the 247 Sports composite rankings, was offered by Michigan in June and then committed to Wisconsin shortly after. The 6-foot-3, 209-pound linebacker from Orlando has stayed in touch with the Wolverines since that pledge, and linebackers coach Alex Whittingham has kept up steady contact through the summer.
That connection appears to be making an impression. Britt told Marich, "Coach is a cool guy. We have connected very well," and Michigan still has a chance to pull off the flip.
Britt may have been the kind of prospect Michigan could have landed if he had slowed things down before making his decision. Even so, the Wolverines aren’t out of it now. Alex Whittingham still has to prove he can win these kinds of battles, but Michigan should not be dismissed in this one.

Michigan Has 3 Players Ready To Make The Media Look Wrong
Big Ten Media Days left Michigan with a familiar chip on its shoulder, as the Wolverines were picked to finish fifth in the conference and got only limited love in USA Todays All-Big Ten projections. Even so, there are still a few names in Ann Arbor who look capable of forcing a rethink by the end of the season, especially if the roster settles quickly around a few high-end playmakers on both sides of the ball.
Jordan Marshall, Jyaire Hill and Rod Moore all have the kind of ceiling that can change how a preseason list looks in hindsight. Marshall flashed enough last season to belong in the conversation, Hill has the tools to become one of the leagues better corners, and Moore remains the kind of veteran presence who could matter a lot if he is back to full strength.
