Michigan has bolstered its defensive lineup with the addition of standout pass-rusher John Henry Daley, a transfer from Utah. Although Daley won't be on the field for spring practices due to an Achilles injury from last season, his recovery is progressing well. The 6-foot-4, 255-pound edge rusher recently shared an update on his condition.
"Physically, my upper body's in the best shape it's ever been," Daley mentioned. "As for my injury, things are going really well.
I'm starting to jog and run, and I'm feeling fantastic. Everyone's optimistic."
Daley even pinpointed a target date for his full recovery.
"I've communicated with Coach Whitt, and June 1st is when I’m expected to be fully ready to join all team activities," Daley added.
Last season, Daley was a force on the field with 48 tackles, 17.5 for loss, 11.5 sacks, and two forced fumbles over 11 games. Michigan hopes he can match or exceed these impressive stats. Daley described his rigorous recovery routine.
"A lot of lower-body exercises," he explained. "We're pushing hard every day. The training staff has me working extensively, and I'm here daily putting in the effort because it's worth it."
Michigan's head coach, Kyle Whittingham, praised Daley's tenacity and skill.
"Daley has an incredible motor, playing each snap like it's his last," Whittingham remarked. "He was leading the nation in sacks before his injury.
We believe he could have led the nation if he stayed healthy. He's a relentless, old-school defensive end with exceptional pass-rushing talent."
