Michigan turned The Big House into a recruiting showcase Saturday, and the guest list was loaded with the kind of names that tell you exactly where the staff is putting its energy.
The headliner was 2027 five-star wide receiver Dakota Guerrant of Harper Woods (Mich.) High, who was back in Ann Arbor for the first time since committing to Oregon in June.
Michigan pushed hard to keep him home then, and that pursuit clearly hasn’t cooled off. Guerrant has been around the program plenty since his recruitment took off as a freshman, and the family ties run deep: his head coach and godfather, Rod Oden, played for the Wolverines in the ‘90s, and Rod’s son is Michigan defensive back Jacob Oden.
For Michigan, the pitch with Guerrant has to be about offense. If the Wolverines are going to make a real move here, they need to show a passing game with juice and a wideout room that can get playmakers on the field early. That message matters not just for Oklahoma, but for the rest of the season, too.
Guerrant wasn’t alone. He was there with Harper Woods teammates 2028 four-star wide receiver Deandre Bidden and 2028 three-star safety Jayden Evans, both of whom hold Michigan offers.
The three were spotted talking with 2027 commits and staff members before the game, and wide receivers coach Micah Simon made a point of greeting them at the 50-yard logo. The timing worked well for Michigan, too, with most, if not all, of the commits in this cycle on hand as the peer recruiting effort around Guerrant continued.
The Wolverines also drew a pair of committed SEC prospects who are clearly worth watching. 2028 four-star offensive tackle Anthony Blalock Jr., an Alabama commit from Northeast Ohio, made the trip to Ann Arbor a week after visiting Gainesville. 2028 four-star wide receiver Armani Strong, committed to Florida since the start of the summer, also took in the scene. Both are obvious candidates to get serious attention by the end of the weekend, and this was about as strong an atmosphere as they could have picked for a first Michigan game.
A long list of priority in-state targets showed up, too. One of the more notable surprise visitors was 2028 four-star edge Jayden Bell of Brother Rice, who had been expected at Indiana instead.
Bell is a clear top target for Michigan, ranked as a Top 10 edge in the 2028 class, and he has already spoken publicly about his interest in staying close to home. A strong showing from the pass rush Saturday would only help the Wolverines there.
Cass Tech also sent two of its biggest 2028 names to the game: four-star offensive tackle Antijuan Wilkes Jr. and four-star defensive back LaMarcus Army. Michigan has generated plenty of optimism with both, but the staff still has work to do to keep that momentum moving in the right direction.
The relationship with Cass Tech remains a major factor, and assistant David Dawson played at Michigan. Army, meanwhile, arrived fully decked out in Michigan gear.
Another in-state name to watch is 2028 athlete Marquis Ray, the son of Michigan legend Marcus Ray. He returned to The Big House for his second straight game after being offered by the Wolverines this summer following his transfer to nearby Saline (Mich.)
High, where he plays alongside 2027 offensive line commit Louis Esposito. Ray also plans to visit Michigan State, but that one sounds like a tough ask for anyone trying to pull him away from the Wolverines.
Michigan also had a 2029 presence worth noting. Detroit Catholic Central running back JJ Chevalier, who was offered by the former Michigan staff, was back on campus with several teammates. The Wolverines have also recently offered 2029 four-star cornerback Kameron Lowe, who is visiting today and is teammates with Bell.
The 2028 group was packed beyond the local names, too. Asa Burch, a four-star edge from Warren (Ohio) Harding and the son of ‘90s star Alfie Burch, was there as one of two legacy recruits.
He’s the No. 5 overall prospect in Ohio, per Rivals, and this was his third trip to Ann Arbor since last November. On the defensive side, 2028 four-star safety Drake Coellner also made it in; Oklahoma is viewed as the favorite for him right now, but a Michigan win could change that picture.
Two more national defensive backs rounded out the visitor list: 2028 four-star cornerback Nasir Richardson and 2028 three-star safety Mekhi McNair, both among the top New Jersey prospects in the class. Richardson is the No. 12 overall prospect and the No. 1 cornerback in the country, while McNair is expected to become another major secondary target for the Wolverines.
