Michigan is making sure Ohio State doesn’t get comfortable with Jameer Whyce.
On August 24, 2026, the Wolverines officially extended a scholarship offer to the five-star defensive lineman from Dayton (OH) Trotwood-Madison, a move that puts Michigan squarely in the mix for one of the top names in the 2028 cycle even though he is already committed to the Buckeyes.
Whyce has emerged as one of the country’s premier interior defensive line prospects. At 6-foot-4 and 270 pounds, he’s rated as a top-35 national recruit and a top-5 defensive lineman by major recruiting services. The appeal is obvious: length, burst off the snap and the kind of lateral quickness that stands out for a player this early in his high school career.
Hudson Standish of 247Sports described Whyce as a "physically dominant point-of-attack presence" with long arms and sudden movement in tight spaces. That profile fits a lineman who can line up in different spots up front, drive into the backfield and force problems for an offense before it ever gets settled.
There’s also plenty of football background behind the player. Whyce comes from a family with deep ties to the game.
His father, Jamaal Whyce Sr., played offensive line at Marshall. His brother, Jamaal Jr., is currently on the defensive line at Marshall, while his older brother JaMarcus, a former high school teammate at Trotwood-Madison, is committed to Purdue in the 2026 class.
Whyce first pledged to Ohio State on October 16, 2025, choosing the Buckeyes over a national list of offers. But with the 2028 cycle still developing, the biggest programs aren’t backing off. Michigan’s offer came the same day Texas A&M jumped in, with LSU and Kansas State also part of the growing group chasing the Ohio standout.
