Michigan Just Got A Needed Recruiting Win At The Right Time

In a bold move reinforcing Michigan's recruiting success, top prospect Xavier Muhammad chooses allegiance to the Wolverines, bypassing offers from more traditionally dominant programs.

Michigan’s recruiting momentum got another boost with Xavier Muhammad shutting the door on a possible flip.

The highly regarded defensive lineman, a consensus four-star prospect and one of the top high school players in the country, is staying locked in with the Wolverines after fielding interest from Texas and other Power Four programs. Muhammad originally pledged to Michigan in May, and according to 247 Sports’ Brice Marich, he has now made it clear he is not taking official visits elsewhere.

Marich reported that Muhammad “is putting an end to the outside noise surrounding his recruiting, reaffirming his commitment to the Wolverines and confirming he will not take an official visit elsewhere,”

Muhammad addressed the decision directly in a statement to 247 Sports, saying:

"First, I want Michigan fans to know how much I appreciate the love and support you've shown me and my family throughout this process. It truly means a lot.

I'm also grateful for the opportunity Texas presented and the interest they've shown in me. I have nothing but respect for their program and coaching staff.

However, my commitment to Michigan is solid, and I'm excited about what lies ahead."

Even with that firm stance, he still plans to be in Ann Arbor soon. Marich reported that Muhammad will return on Nov. 21 for Michigan’s game against UCLA, which also serves as the final home game of the season.

If things stay on track, Muhammad will become part of a 2027 Michigan class that currently sits 16th nationally in 247 Sports’ rankings and 11th in the composite. Depending on the outlet, he ranks third or fourth in the group, with cornerback Monsanna Torbert and offensive lineman Jakari Lipsey both placed slightly ahead of him.

The commitment matters for a Michigan program sitting at 5-3, because the Wolverines have managed to keep building on the trail even as the season has gone sideways. That’s been especially important with questions swirling around head coach Kyle Whittingham and his staff. Losing a player of Muhammad’s caliber would have only added to the noise.

Instead, Michigan can point to Muhammad’s decision as another sign that the class is holding together. The Wolverines also recently made the shortlist for Kellan Hall, the No. 1 overall recruit in the 2028 class, who will announce his final choice on Jan. 3 at the Under Armour All-American Game.

Michigan Just Added A Famous Wolverine To Rivalry Week

Rivalry week already has enough built-in theater, but Michigan added a little more with a celebrity nod that fits the moment. The program announced that actor Hugh Jackman will be part of the buildup for the Wolverines' game against Michigan State, and he showed clear excitement in a social media post and video shared by the team.

The matchup is set for Michigan Stadium, with Peacock and NBCSN carrying the broadcast, so the stage is already big enough without any extra help. Still, bringing in a famous Wolverine gives the rivalry another layer of buzz, and it is the kind of detail that tends to travel quickly once the pregame attention starts to build. [Read more 🡒]

Michigan Showed Something Against UConn That Wolverines Fans Will Notice

Michigans trip to TD Garden ended with an 85-77 loss to UConn, but the Wolverines still left with something to build on in a rematch of the 2026 national championship. Trey McKenney was the headliner for Michigan, pouring in a career-high 22 points and giving the Wolverines a scoring punch they needed against a high-level opponent.

J.P. Estrella and Roddy Gayle Jr. also made meaningful contributions, which mattered in a game that asked Michigan to answer when UConn pushed the pace and the pressure. The result still counts in the loss column, but the performance offered a glimpse of what this group can be when it is balanced and aggressive, and now the attention shifts to a home date with Marquette. Michigan Has The Edge But This Rivalry Twist Changes Everything

The build-up to Michigans meeting with Michigan State carries the usual rivalry edge, but this one comes with a familiar October wrinkle: injuries are shaping the conversation as much as the matchup itself. Michigan State is dealing with absences on both sides of the ball, while Michigan has had its own injury concerns, even if the Wolverines still enter as the more complete team and the one most projections expect to handle the moment better.

For a rivalry that rarely needs extra fuel, the availability report has become the hidden subplot. The odds lean toward Michigan, and the predictions do too, but games like this tend to ignore clean scripts once the emotion kicks in. Michigan still has the edge on paper, yet the twists in who is available could end up being the detail that makes the difference. [Read more 🡒]
